Sydenham Dragon (died 2nd August 2006) stood nearly 14.3hh with 8.5 inches of bone, 4 white socks and very close to the original description of a Welsh Cob (see breed description page). He had a wonderful temperament and fantastic with visiting mares and foals as well as his own herd.
He, very sadly, died on 2nd August 2006 and was a special stallion that will be grately missed not only by us, but also by his many admirers in the welsh cob world.
He was successful in his showing career in hand as a youngster and was trained under saddle. Unfortunately Dragon was more interested in the girls than doing the ridden showing !
He produced an Olympia HOYS qualifier and Royal Welsh champion and his stock are winning at local and County shows in hand as well as under saddle. He produced excellent jumping cobs with a good roundness to their jump, and all his stock can gallop ! His stock also excel in dressage and are generally good all rounders, including hunting etc.,
The most wonderful thing about Dragon is his pony character. Something a lot of Welsh cobs are missing, as they are tending to go larger and ignore the breed description part of which is:
General Character: Strong, hardy and active with pony character and as much substance as possible.
Head: Full of quality and pony character. A coarse head and roman nose are most objectionable.
Movement is very important in a Welsh cob and Dragon certainly produced the correct movement which was totally natural, and which he passed on to his stock. He produced wonderfully well balanced cobs.
He thoroughly enjoyed his life with his mares and lived out all year round. Proving his hardiness as a Welsh cob.
He was a very special Stallion and we miss him so much. There is a video of him on youtube.com saithstud about a month before he died.
