Still on a high about Olympia ! Here is a photo of Dream at the boxing day fun ride for Pentyrch Hunt. Exactly a week later ! Hope everyone has a great new year. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 21 Dec 2005
What a show Olympia is. We had a fantastic day, and Dream did her trot against all the odds not having been ridden for 2 weeks before, had problem with her foot, and then was stiff as a board in the working in arena. Tracey and I massaged her as much as possible and she came out and went beautifully. Just a bit of bad luck on our individual, as Dream was so calm and then the crowd clapped for another competitor and she couldnt stand for the Judge. So that was it, although I've over the moon that we still came 5th out of 7 welsh cobs. We came 25th overall and I was just so pleased that we got there. It was a magical day and everyone concerned thanks so much for the support and good luck cards etc., Tracey, Steve and myself all enjoyed the fantastic atmosphere behind the scenes and really enjoyed the whole day. Back to Christmas shopping and I still cant stop thinking about Olympia !! Im taking Dream to the Pentyrch fun ride on Boxing Day, for a good gallop and hair let down ! She needs to have some fun now ! Wishing everyone a wondeful Christmas and Fabulous New Year. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 18 Dec 2005
Well its very early Sunday morning and cant sleep. So decided to write in the diary before we set off for Olympia. Its been a rollercoaster this week with Dream not 100%, but after alot of hard work we have managed to get her sound ! Stiff as a board though !! It made me realise that I just took everything for granted and I was devastated that we might not be going and let everyone down. So when she was ok yesterday, I was crying for joy. 2 weeks ago I wanted to be champion ! Now Im just pleased we are going to be there and 7th place sounds great to me. ! So to everyone we might meet there, we're off to the champers bar afterwards ! Fingers crossed that she flies ! Update when we get back. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 11 Dec 2005
Had a lovely time today, took Saith Magical Amber on a fun ride in Weston Super Mare. She went so well. Met some lovely people as well. Thanks to the people I rode with, Emily and Helen, didnt catch the others names. They babysat me and Amber, and put up with me nattering on about Olympia ! - yes to anyone and everyone ! LOL H

Welsh Cobs Diary 9 Dec 2005
Rode Dream today. Just hacked down the road, wow is she feeling good ! We bounced and snorted and generally she went really well. Just kept thinking, thank god that Tracey is riding her at Olympia ! Not long now, 11 days and counting ....every minute actually ! Hoping to be in the top 7 ! LOL !! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 24 Nov 2005
GREAT NEWS AGAIN !!! Saith Morgan has become Reserve Champion of the Welsh Pony & Cob Gelding High Points scheme. This is a scheme that promotes geldings within the Welsh Society. During 6 months any show you go to and get placed you get points and they are added up at the end and Morgan came Reserve Champion !!! Fantastic !!! Kate from Bristol has put a deposit on him and will be having a 2 week trial in December. So watch this space ! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 23 Nov 2005
Tracey came to ride Dream today, oh she was excitable ! Just wanted to gallop and prance about and not do any work !!! With only 4 weeks to go to Olympia ! ahhhhh !!!. She is happy and thats the main thing. These Welsh Cobs are unbelievable. H

|
Welsh Cobs Diary 22 Nov 2005
GREAT NEWS !!! Saith DK has found a wonderful home and passed the vet and the 2 week trial and is now the proud owner of Dot and Liz !!! Couldnt have asked for a better home. He is so happy there already, not even missing me ! So another Saith Welsh Cob leaves Wales for pastures new ! H Bit sad though, too soft - thats my problem !

Welsh Cobs Diary 20 Nov 2005
Was supposed to be going to the SWAWP&CS show today down in Conquest, with Ffion. Looking forward to it so much, and of course when I seemed to get so excited about shows, everything goes wrong. We washed her feet (too cold for a bath!) and managed to get bandages on them for the 1st time ! She was very good. So all ready, got up early this morning, put her on the box, after a 20 minute coaxing time, got in and off we went. Only to find going up the hill there was no throttle ! It had frozen completely. We turned around - having about an hour to spare, and tried everything to defrost it. No, it wasnt having any of it, so that was that ! We unloaded her and turned her out with Charm and went home to get warm ! I was so disappointed. Never mind, another show next week, hopefully we can get there this time. ! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 19 Nov 2005
Here is Amber today doing her first fun ride with Laura riding. She had just done a few hours when this photo was taken and totally exhausted. She needs to get fitter now and lose that Welsh cob weight thats still on her. It was a 3 hr ride and she went brilliantly, first exciting thing really, with no bucking or rearing ! So thats great now I (the oldie!) can take her to a few ! Now that the bumps are all ironed out LOL !!! Just so wanted to go with Dream, but I know that she would have been so excited and she usually is for at least a week afterwards, just too close to Olympia to try and get the weight back on ! So she has to wait until after Christmas for her fun. At least now I can take Amber out hunting (drag of course !) H

Welsh Cobs Diary 18 Nov 2005
Here's a picture of Charm our 3 yr old welsh cob, taken about a week ago. Really looking forward to getting her under saddle next year. ! Its been a while since I was on, still in shock over Horse of the Year show ! Dream has just last night come in to the barn - she will still be going out in the day. Hacking around the lanes with her at the moment. I need to find some fun rides to get Amber out and about. She needs to have some fun ! Ffion, our foal, is coming on fine and is very laid back and easy to do. She is lovely ! So its all quiet really. Hopefully Saith DK will be accepted after his 2 week trial with Dot. Thats up tomorrow and its fingers crossed that they have him, as its such a wonderful home ! Saith Morgan may also be going to another wonderful home with Kate. Kate has put a deposit on him and once he has had his 2 weeks trial and been vetted, he may also be having a wonderful life ! Anyway, only 4 weeks away from Olympia - pretty scary ! Take care H

Welsh Cobs Diary 13 Oct 2005
What a trip !!! Saith Magical Dream did us proud, and Tracey rode her really well. It was a long 2 days but worth it. Dream came 3rd, beaten by 2 section C's, and she was the first Welsh Section D to be brought in. She just about held it ! and did a lovely display. Still tired today, so god knows what Dream's feeling like ! She still galloped off into the night, and was so good in the stable up there. I really thought she would be box walking. I think because of the fact that so many horses were around her, she felt safe. Dream coming third at Horse of the Year Show - wow !!! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 10 Oct 2005
Just to say a big THANK YOU to everyone that has wished us luck for Wednesday at Horse of the Year Show. We are all very very excited, and just hope it doesnt rub off onto Dream. Well whatever she does, its out of our hands. She is who she is and we cant change her - bless ! So really looking forward to it all and to enjoy every minute of it. ! Full report on return. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 3 Oct 2005
Panicing already - must start putting lists together to make sure I dont forget anything for the Horse of the Year Show next week - still cant believe that Im actually saying that and we are actually going. I have luxury as we are going on the Tuesday, staying over in the Hilton with my mum while the rest of the gang are sleeping in the box ! Shame hey ! LOL Im really not sure how Dream is going to react to it all. She doesnt seem phased by the music and noises, I think its more the atmosphere that gets to her. I just hope she can cope! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 25 Sep 2005
Lovely day showing today. Took Amber again - bless ! - and came 1st in the 4/5 yr old class. She was as good as gold. Didnt manage to do the championship as time was going on and we would have been home in the dark. I also did a fun class "best condition" and came 6th !!! Thought that was great !

Welsh Cobs Diary 24 Sep 2005
Dropped Harmony back to her owners yesterday and they gave us a beautiful picture of Mystic Meg - who is by Sydenham Dragon. She is a full welsh cob and I thought it was a lovely picture. So here it is. This is at the SWP&CS summer show with her coming 1st.

Welsh Cobs Diary 23 Sep 2005
I just noticed I said I rode Dream - old age doesnt come alone, I actually rode Saith Magical Amber at the show, although they both have 4 white socks, so I can be excused on that one !! Here's storm a few days ago.

Welsh Cobs Diary 22 Sep 2005
Had a fantastic weekend. Actually got the courage to ride Dream at a show ! We came 1st !!! Then Steve went into the in hand with her and came 1st then champion, which clashed with the other championship in the ridden. I really didnt mind, since there were some stunning hunters etc in there ! So went into the Supreme and we did it, she came supreme under the ridden and in hand judge. Excellent day. I wouldnt have worried if I came last, the fact that we got around, on the right leg was amazing !

Welsh Cobs Diary 13 Sep 2005
We went to the Welsh Pony & Cob Society Performance Show over the weekend. Had a brilliant time. In the dressage Amber came 6th and Dream 5th and then in the ridden, Amber was in the Novice Welsh Section D's/ part breds and C's and came 1st and then went on to become Champion. A very exciting day. Still buzzing ! Tracey rode both Dream and Amber and since we only have one saddle it was off Amber and back onto Dream and vice versa ! Lisa, who won the whole event last year, helped us out by lending us her saddle, but luckily the classes didnt clash. Thanks Lisa. Special thanks to Tracey though, she didnt sleep the night before and worked so hard to get her ponies ready as well as riding ours. Hopefully Amber will be doing some hunting this year (drag hunting !) and growing up a bit as she is now out of novices and in with the big boys ! Great weekend regardless of the rain !

Welsh Cobs Diary 29 Aug 2005
Took Amber to a lovely show today at Leominster. She came 2nd in hand and still couldnt get the courage to jump on her and take her in the ridden welsh cob. Must have a stiff talk to myself soon. Steve had a lovely day with her and we really enjoyed seeing good friends. Sam let me ride her lovely mare ! Tried swopping Storm for her, but no-way ! They werent letting go ! Tracey's up twice this week to work Amber, so maybe I'll be able to get on her after that. Such a wimp with youngsters !!! Give me an oldie anyday ! LOL. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 28 Aug 2005
Sorry been away again. Monmouth County show, Dream achieved 1st place in the Welsh Section D ridden and 11th overall in the HOYS qualifier, having 3rd place for the ride, and the lowest conformation mark that Dream has had ! Obviously not a judge that likes her ! Very pleased how she went until we went into the parade, very memorable, with her doing "airs above the ground" in spectacular style, but she did do a wonderful trot around the whole area which I really enjoyed.

Welsh Cobs Diary 18 Aug 2005
What an exciting time last night at Ponies UK. In the large arena Tracey and Dream went in and was just amazing. So proud of them both ! Tracey still has a bad arm and rode her so well even with an injury - puts me to shame ! Some photos of yesterday.

Welsh Cobs Diary 10 Aug 2005
Went to St. Mellons Show today with Saith Magical Dream and Saith Morgan. We missed the Welsh cob class so ended up in the M&M class, which was all cobs anyway !! She went well in the ridden, but totally lost it in the line out. We had lots of intercom's shouting into the ring ! I was brought in first and fully expected to be put down, but the judge came over and said that she had the most amazing trot and how naughty she was in the line out ! and then gave me the 1st rosette. I was pleased, but at the sametime annoyed with Dream for being so silly. Morgan went well and came 2nd in the M&M class with Steve. So back into the championship and Dream went well and stood ! Two ponies won championship and reserve and afterwards the judge said that she was just too naughty in the line up earlier to give the championship our way. Totally agreed with her !! Lots of work to do before HOYS and Olympia. Otherwise we will be out before we have even got round !

Welsh Cobs Diary 9 Aug 2005

At last got my act together and took some photos of Saith DK, our 2 yr old Welsh Cob. He is still a colt and will be gelded probably at the end of this year. He is a darlin' ! Lots more photos of him under stock - Saith DK.

Welsh Cobs Diary 7 Aug 2005
Been quiet lately. Went on hols to Cyprus and had a lovely time while steve looked after everyone and it rained ! Tracey fell off a horse she was training and couldnt do the Ffrethi or Silver medal qualifiers at the NPS championship show, so muggins here had to, and came no-where. Just cant ride as well as Tracey ! Never mind, I enjoyed it and the weather was nice and had a laugh with a few friends. In the silver medal class, we worked out that there were 5 HOYS and 2 Olympia qualifiers in the back line ! LOL. I didnt even wait to see my marks (gulp!) Dream went well though, but knows when mum is on board ! Typical Welsh cob to take advantage of the situation. ! Went to Eastington show on the weekend and Amber came 2nd in the in hand class, couldnt ride her because she lost a shoe. Steve showed her and thoroughly enjoyed himself, basically because he could go and chat to everyone and come back to a "ready" welsh cob ! Got a few more shows left with Dream and then thats it, until HOYS - ahhhhh. Hope Tracey rides them ! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 22 Jul 2005
HOYS here we come !!!! Dream did it yesterday at the Royal Welsh showground. She came 1st and Champion M&M and qualified for Section D Welsh cobs HOYS class. What a day !! Im totally in shock, as I really thought that we would come back down to reality yesterday. Nope, still on cloud 9. Our baby, Amber came 4th in the junior ridden Section D Welsh cob mare class. She was pulled in last. Not that I minded as she went so well for her first time in a big show. But to be pulled up to fourth was amazing. Unfortunately the commentator got the wrong horse and we didnt get our name mentioned ! I will never, ever forget this year.

Welsh Cobs Diary 11 Jul 2005
Fantastic weekend Rode Dream at a Hunt show at Lympsham. Last year took Cindy and splodge and won some cups so we had to take them back. - It was a quiet show last year - not this year, the car park was full !!! Steve took Morgan in the M&M in hand and came 3rd. It was any breed and any age, so very pleased as there were 15 approx in the class. Dream's class was split between small and large breeds and our class had alot of welsh cobs, as well as the other natives. Dream came 1st and then went on to win Championship, with me riding !!! Over the moon, cause it was so so hot ! On Sunday took Amber to Bridgend Show and came 3rd in the Welsh cob class and 2nd in the M&M ridden - very pleased as she is such a baby still ! So good weekend alround ! Will post some piccies of Amber soon.

Welsh Cobs Diary 7 Jul 2005

Had another brilliant day at the Royal of England County Show. The class was for Welsh cob D and Section C's and there were booked in 53 ! About 45 turned up ! It was a very big welsh cob class indeed. Dream was pulled in 3rd originally, and then put down to 5th place. One point separated second, third, fourth and fifth places it was that close ! I was so pleased with her, it was windy, Abba was playing on the speakers and flags flying ! She coped well. You can just see her next to the chestnut C in the picture. This is the final line up. What a day, long way again, but to be in the top 6 with most of them producers was amazing. ! Sydenham Forget me Knot was champion Welsh, (related to Dream!) and looked a picture.

Welsh Cobs Diary 3 Jul 2005
So pleased with Saith Magical Amber today. We havent really done much with her this season, concentrating on Dream, but took her to a local show, Swansea Valley, and she came 2nd out of 17. Very pleased with that. She was tired, and not fit ! Didnt take any pictures as I left my video at home - typical. As a 4 yr old we will plod through this season and just let her find her confidence with shows - do the Royal Welsh as a big show for her and just let her come at her own pace. She was a good girl today !

Welsh Cobs Diary 2 Jul 2005
Welsh Cobs for sale Steve and I have made the decision that we are going to sell the boys now. Welsh Cob Saith Black Storm is Dream's full brother and has the same movement, with tonnes of attitude and a lovely temperament. Still a colt, but I think we will cut him soon as he's becoming a pain. !! He should reach 14.3 / 15hh Both colts are 2 yrs old. Welsh cob Saith DK, is also still a colt and will be cut soon, but is not so much of a pain ! He is half brother to Dream and is a real pleasure to have around. He should easily reach 15/15.1. They both are good with the blacksmith, to catch, box and both enjoy fussing. They are both intelligent and as all our stock, not for a novice person as they have alot of flair about them. Welsh Cob Black Storm is also full brother to Saith Johnnie Bach, who is an alrounder, qualifying for dressage, cross country and just started working hunter classes. Storm will follow in his footsteps with ease. Will be posting new pictures soon, any enquiries, please contact me or Steve on the above email or phone numbers. Welsh cob Saith Morgan might be for sale to the right home.!! (in other words, I really dont want to sell him !! LOL - I dont want to sell any of them, but running a stud costs money !) Please let me win the lottery tonight ! LOL Homes will be vetted.

Welsh Cobs Diary 27 Jun 2005

There is my lovely welsh cob Dream ! We went to Cricklands Show and she came 1st, champion and Reserve Supreme champion, with me riding !!!! Still cant believe it. She was in M&M class, but there were loads of welsh cobs entered in there. She did her fantastic trot for me and I was so pleased !! Great Day !

|
Welsh Cobs Diary 23 Jun 2005
Great news today, our Welsh Cob mare Coriander has been scanned in foal. I just knew she was because she has been so loving with Dream and Amber when they leave the field and then go back in. So pleased. BUT also really excited as we had a paragraph write up in the Horse and Hound, by Dr. Wynne, with regard to Wales and Borders show where Dream was Champion. Over the moon. Just so lovely to see Dream's name in print, and he mentioned Johnnie Bach as well ! and the weather's been lovely !!! Good day alround for our welsh cobs !!!

|
Welsh Cobs Diary 18 Jun 2005
Took Dream on a fun ride today. We went over mountains, up steep hills, through 2 rivers, and eventually into the sea where I nearly fell off (Imagine the embarrassment !) Stayed on, and the gallop after on the beach was amazing. She so enjoyed it and I did too. We were supposed to be going to a show tomorrow, but as I can hardly walk, and as Dream is just as stiff, then we'll give it a miss. Lots of welsh cobs on the ride though ! Managed to tell a few people about yesterday ! LOL

Welsh Cobs Diary 17 Jun 2005

Oh what a day !!!! Went to 3 Counties show in Malvern, and won the M&M Welsh Cob and Fells, dales and highland, NPS Ffrithi class, qualifying for the championships in August, and then became reserve champion and because the champion didnt have her card on her, NPS Silver Medal Ridden !!!!! So again qualifying for the Gold Medal class in August. I cant stop smiling, nor can Tracey in these photos of her. Dream was brilliant and as a treat will be off for a 3 hour fun ride tomorrow over sand dunes and in rivers ! 1st and reserve champion, I still just cant believe it. What a fantastic welsh cob she is, even though Im totally biased ! Im just so proud of her. Steve is hoping his back will be better as he cant wait to start welsh cob in hand showing again. He is getting slightly better and hopefully will be able to run again soon. BUT its the Saith ridden team doing the job ! LOL.

Went hunter trialing on saturday, and that was fun, she did a brilliant job and jumped most of them - I chickened out of a few though ! On Sunday, we went to SWPA show at David Broom's and came 2nd in the Ponies UK , Welsh cob class nd reserve champion, came 2nd in the NPS bob Templeton welsh cob class and again reserve champion. So another great day and I got over 2 jumps in the working hunter ! LOL. - it was high !! Saith Johnnie Bach did the Burley competition and came 2nd and reserve champion (spooky!) and did really well in the other events he went into. So Dream had a busy weekend but as all welsh cobs, she came through it brilliantly.

Went to Royal Cornwall show. What a trip - long way !!! Dream went well and was first pulled in 7th, after her display was moved up to 2nd !!! We were one point off 1st place and qualifying for HOYS. One point ..... ahhhh.... but extremely pleased to be 2nd at another County show.

Welsh Cobs Diary 6 Jun 2005

We went to the Wales and Borders show. In the rain again ! Dream was a bit fed up about it all, but still sparkled enough to come 1st and champion M&M in a large class. She was totally fed up by the Supreme and decided that she didnt want any more of it and didnt go well at all. Not that I cared, first and champion M&M is just WOW !!! Here she is with Tracey and her first rosette, before the championship. Did it rain. I know that welsh cobs are supposed to be ok in the rain, but Dream just hates it. She lives out, but it doesnt seem to make any difference !!! The sun shone for me though. Her first 1st and championship of the season and in good company. She also did the welsh cob trot even though the ground was just so bad ! Proud of her ! (and Tracey !!)

|
Welsh Cobs Diary 6 Jun 2005

Here is Saith Johnnie Bach in the Wales and Borders show. Although he had a few down, he completed the course in pouring rain ! Victoria then went onto come 3rd in the M&M ridden class, so he made up for it ! The welsh cobs were very good in the class.

|
Welsh Cobs Diary 3 Jun 2005
Dream went so well for me. Usually Tracey rides the big ones and me the local ones, but after 2 glasses of Cava - thanks to my mum - I managed to get into the ring, in a monsoon ! There were approximately 30 in there and dream was pulled in 7th - WOW and she did a wonderful display, well it felt wonderful, and she did everything I asked of her. Ride judge didnt like it and I had 32 for my ride. Conformation judge gave us 42, which means we came 7th !!!!!!! Yahooo !!!!! I cant believe it, 7th out of all those many cobs, with me on board !!! She went so well for me and gave me such a good ride, I couldnt have asked for more. Brilliant day, missed the box terribly, but still massive smile. No pictures of me ! because it was raining !! - thats my excuse. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 29 May 2005
Still on cloud 9. Dream came 3rd in the Welsh Cob Olympia Qualifier at Crick today. Beaten by Carol Isaacs and Aimee Hoare. She was tired after yesterday, but still managed to do her extension well. I am so pleased that I just cant stop smiling - definitely getting funny looks from people !! Tracey rode her superbly. How lucky we are that Tracey has been with us for so long (7 yrs) helping school our horses, buying Saith JB (who came 4th in the workers today) and always so positive when things go wrong. Its not all about what happens in the ring, but all the preparation that goes on at home, and Tracey is a huge part of that. Dream has a shock on Friday though, Im riding her in the Bath & West (AHHH). Luckily, there are loads entered so I can hide in the background ! But I will enjoy every minute of it !! and probably be smiling the whole way round ! Welsh cobs, just love them !

Welsh Cobs Diary 28 May 2005
Had a great day today for two of our welsh cobs. Dream's first HOYS qualifier, pulled in 5th, moved up to 4th place !!!! Absolutely over the moon. She went really well and wasnt as tense as normal in her display. Then tried the working hunter - went in, got to the first fence (which was big!) and Dream said no. So that was that. Tracey had a nice ride in the ring !!! LOL. Typical Welsh Cob, jump anything at home ! Saith Johnnie Bach went into the working hunter and got round the course, having only a jump down. Very pleased, but being in a snaffle he didnt have much brakes and galloped at each jump !! Victoria sat well and guided him around with a huge smile on her face. Lovely to see them both enjoying it ! Fantastic day - weather could have been a bit better - I know we have Welsh cobs, but even they looked cold ! Worse thing though the box broke down on the way home. We nursed her into the yard and thanked God that we managed to get home. H

|
Welsh Cobs Diary 27 May 2005
Took both the Welsh cobs out yesterday, Dream and Amber. Steve had to come with Amber as she isnt traffic proof, and we had an exciting ride. Opening electric gates right by her, builders throwing things into a skip, all the usual fun things. Then Dream, again the builders, then a huge lorry with lifting gear on the back, took ages to get past that one. I take my life in my hands everytime we go out, supposedly down a quiet lane ! Amber was very good and hopefully I'll have the courage to show her soon. Bit too much weight on them now, so both welsh cobs are in the barn looking very upset not being on the grass !

|
Welsh Cobs Diary 24 May 2005
Busy day today, apart from buying Dream a proper show rug for the ring - as Dream ended up with a NZ rug on Friday thats been around ! - we were busy with Dragon and his visiting mares. I still havent ridden this week and I've just got to start on Amber again. She's had a month or so off, and now its time to bring her back into some serious work. Serious Welsh Cob work ! LOL I dont want to drag Dream to all the shows, so we will be mixing in hand Welsh cob classes with ridden, and Amber has to do the ridden !!! Love her - just hope I can get to grips with a youngster again. H

Saith Magical Ffion at 3 weeks and is certainly showing that she can move ! Steve is now so excited he opted for the foal instead of the mare in the shows ! Ha ha. She is now turning into a lovely girl and with a real show off personality. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 20 May 2005
Just a quickie as Im off down the pub to celebrate. Dream came 2nd in the ridden Welsh Cobs at Devon County show today !! She was pulled in first, but unfortunately decided that her display was better than Tracey's and decided to canter at the wrong time !!! Not that I worried, to be 2nd at a County show is amazing !!! To cap it all, Saith Magical Angel won her class (3 yr olds), with Sue and Tracey K, and Saith Morgan came 2nd with Steve running !! Yahoo.... Steve is back on the circuit (more work for me !) So a fabulous day and will post some pictures soon H

Welsh Cobs Diary 17 May 2005

Have had a fantastic response on Saddlesoap to Dreams photos, and on here as well. Im overwhelmed by the response we have had and thank you to everyone that has congratulated us. It feels like we have won the championship and we are on our way to Olympia - ah dreaming again !!! So imagine what we will be like if, being very lucky, we actually do it one day. !

Welsh Cobs Diary 15 May 2005

Royal Windsor Show, Steve and I have been trying to get there for the past 9 years, and boy it was all worth it. The drive was long, and Tracey plus her children and a good friend Mike came - freezing cold in the box travelling down, but that all fell by the way side when she came second. Then the evening performance was so emotional for me particularly, to see Dream, our first Saith, move so well and Tracey ride her so brilliantly. Ah, shall live on that memory for a long time.
|
|
Welsh Cobs Diary 15 May 2005

Done this the wrong way round again. !!! This is in the evening floodlit championship where Dream just went fantastic, until the end when over 100 people clapped and she lost the plot a bit ! Tracey just rode her so well and I had tears in my eyes when she extended across the middle.

Welsh Cobs Diary 15 May 2005
This is amazing Dream came 2nd at the Royal Windsor Ridden Olympia class !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pictures will be coming up soon of the day and the evening performance in the main arena in front of 100's of people. She was so good, but just lost it at the end when everyone clapped ! Did I care - na!!!! We were in there. It was wow, absolutely amazing. Tracey rode her superbly and Dream, well she was such a star and I was so proud of her. A little 14.1hh welsh cob coming 2nd in such a large show ! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 2 May 2005

AT LAST ! Our little welsh cob foal has arrived. Cindy produced a filly foal at 1.am last night and she is beautiful. She is black 4 white socks nearly perfect and a blaze, but with one black nostril ! Cindy's sense of humour coming through ! ha ha. Here is a picture of her, with Cindy of course ! She's about 10 hours old. Very pleased with the shape of her shoulder and already she is a very sweet filly, coming over to say hello and has a very gentle feel about her. Oh happy days - sleep tonight !!
|
|
Welsh Cobs Diary 29 Apr 2005
Just left Cindy at 10 tonight. She is in the barn and I sit on the edge with my blanket. She was so restless tonight and I thought "yes this is it" until I dropped off at about 9pm for a quick 10 minutes and woke to find her standing over me, like I was the foal. She was more asleep than I was ! Going out with friends tomorrow night, so guess when she is going to go !! - hope Im wrong ! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 27 Apr 2005
Ok, you know the form, good days and bad days - well at the moment bad seems to be taking an upper hand ! Yesterday, Dragon, our welsh cob stallion, got out of his electric fenced field and tried to get through the hedge into the next field, in the process cutting both sides of his neck. Horrible, nothing serious, but just looks ugg. Sudocream galore, and with a girlfriend coming today as well - she luckily didnt really care about his neck ! - had other ideas. Tomorrow we have another visitor coming down and DK decides to go lame tonight ! He had a bath and looked beautiful, then later on I went into his stable to groom and he's hobbling around. Couldnt believe it !!! and of course to top it all Cindy STILL hasnt foaled ! Life with welsh cobs is never ever boring, maybe a bit stressful, but never boring ! At least Amber went fantastically for Tracey.
|
|
Welsh Cobs Diary 26 Apr 2005

Well Cindy did not want to co-operate at all ! She's back to normal today with nothing happening, now Im hoping that doesnt mean that she's going to "pop" tonight ! I had a lovely photo from Julie who bought Stefhan from us a few years back. Just cant believe he has grown so tall !!! What a lucky boy he is with all that off road hacking ! Just had to put this up !
|

Welsh Cobs Diary 26 Apr 2005
Still waiting, up until 12 last night with her, and then Steve takes over the early shift ! Come on Cindy !!!

|
Welsh Cobs Diary 21 Apr 2005
Still waiting on Cindy and looking forward to the show on Sat at Malvern. Although Dream decided that bucking was much more fun on Wednesday than doing anything else ! Tracey is coming out tomorrow to give her another lesson, hopefully she wont be so bad ! Fingers crossed, knowing our luck Cindy will decide to pop tomorrow night and I will miss the show through being asleep in the lorry ! LOL

Fantastic News !! Saith Johnnie Bach has reached the Final of the Trailblazers Dressage Championships held in the summer. He and Victoria flew through the test on Sunday and qualified. He now has qualified for a Cross Country Championship in October and the Dressage championship. Very proud of them both ! Who said Welsh cobs cant do dressage ! LOL

|
Welsh Cobs Diary 16 Apr 2005
Freezing wind today. Still waiting on Cindy. Her due date is Wednesday, but I think she will come the night before we go showing which will be Friday ! Or when we get back there will be a baby on the floor !! She is huge and so uncomfortable. Poor thing. JB doing really well with his new owners. He completed 2.3ft 2ft6 and 2ft 9 cross country last weekend and is doing dressage this weekend. Hopefully he may come to the show with us next week and do the working hunter. Im hoping that Dream may get round ! Should be fun whatever happens !

Welsh Cobs Diary 13 Apr 2005
Again time seems to slip by and I havent done an entry. Whats happened ! Well Amber went to West Midlands stallion show and did a very nice show in the novice class and came 8th. I was extremely pleased with her as she really went well. Other than that, Dream is now sound after becoming lame not 2 days before the show, when I had already paid my entries !!! Always the way ! Here's a picture of Amber at the show.

Welsh Cobs Diary 31 Mar 2005
Been busy this week, but doesnt seem like I've done much ! On Good Friday went to the NPS show at Badgeworth - packed ! Dream went really badly in the Picton ridden. Just couldnt understand it. Then we we got home realised that she had hurt her back again. Really sore ! So saddle off again to be re-stuffed ! On Monday went to Avon & Borders show in Hand and Morgan came 1st ! I was so pleased for him, although he didnt really enjoy going on his own, but we got some great points for the gelding scheme. So no riding this week, just grooming like mad and getting Amber ready for next Thursday at Malvern. Saddle should be done on Monday so I can start on Dream again. We were going on a fun ride this weekend ! Its always the way isnt it. Cindy is huge now and ready to pop - hoping for a lovely foal from her. Cant wait to play with it once its born ! Just wish it would warm up a bit now. It was so cold down there today.

Welsh Cobs Diary 20 Mar 2005
Had a great visit today from Gareth and his sister Gaynor and daughter Bethan. They came up to see Dragon as they want to use him on their mare. Storm did a wonderful display and Saith DK mirrored him in the other field it was quite funny to see. Anyway, got a quickie picture of DK (2 yr old colt), after of course having a good roll. One day I will get "that picture." In the meantime, we have to keep on trying ! Saith DK is a good type of Welsh Cob, bred along Derwen lines.

Welsh Cobs Diary 19 Mar 2005

Here is Saith Magical Dream today - very tired - after a long day's riding. We went to Badgeworth Arena for a show there. Took Dream and Saith Morgan - his first show. Started with Dream and working hunter - massive height - 1ft 6" !!! Anyway, we got around clear and she was brill. Came 4th in that, which I was really pleased with. I didnt think I would do it. Then it was rush up and get Morgan out of the box and take him in the 1,2, and 3 yr old in hand - 10 in the class and some nice looking horses. We came an amazing 2nd !!! His first time out and yesterday I couldnt even get a trot out of him. He was a very good boy and once he gets it, he will be great to show. Then it was another rush back up to the box, put Morgan on and take Dream down to the in hand. She was a bit tired and we were pulled in last but one. Then she had a good run and we ended up 1st ! Which was lovely. Then it was back up to the box for a rest ! The ridden in the afternoon and in a large class she came 3rd. She did struggle a bit, so I need to get her a bit fitter now but a lovely day alround and then to cap it all Wales winning the Grand Slam !

Welsh Cobs Diary 17 Mar 2005

Brilliant news today, National Pony Society journal came and we're in it !!! I did an article on Saith a while back hoping that we might get in, but WOW didnt think we would, I didnt think it was good enough. Reading it again, Im still not sure !!! Really, really pleased though. Here is Dream in the barn today. She is doing her first working hunter class with me on Saturday ! Im a bit worried, but it will be a lot of fun, especially for anyone watching. Ha ha

Welsh Cobs Diary 6 Mar 2005
Went down to Dorchester today ! Did it in good time, but freezing again ! It was a small "pre showing " show by the SWA of WP&CS. Dream went really well and came 3rd in the Welsh C & D class. I was so pleased for her. She took it all in her stride and seemed to enjoy it. Got a bit tense on the individual but apart from that no bucking and easy ride ! I must say that I hate double bridles, Im going to put her back in the snaffle from now on. I just cant get to grips with the reins ! OK so we wont look professional, but at least I can enjoy it a bit more ! without worrying where my reins are and are they the same length etc ! There was a nasty accident there though and I really hope the lady is ok. Just makes you realise that it can happen when you least expect it. Morgan came for his first real ride ready for the show next week - he's still pretty hairy, but he needs to start somewhere and then by the middle of the season he may actually know what to do ! He was so good in the box, just the odd neigh and then quiet. So thats another plus going for him ! Tiring day, but well worth it.

Welsh Cobs Diary 2 Mar 2005
Went to a show jumping clinic held locally with Jan Evans. Wow did Dream jump or what !! I was nearly airbourne myself on a few occasions. She is just rushing her jumps, so our working hunter may be the fastest in history ! She was so excited by it all ! I really enjoyed it - afterwards .... sitting at home with a glass of Cava. I knew that welsh cobs can jump, but I need wings to keep on her ! Show on Sunday first one for Dream this year, so it will be good to see how she has come on, or not. Long way again down towards Exeter, but the class isnt until the afternoon, so we can amble down there.

Welsh Cobs Diary 28 Feb 2005
"Team Saith" arrived at Badgeworth Arena very tired from a very early start. Saith Magical Amber was there to do her first show ! Tracey brought Saith JB for Victoria and Hannah brought her own pony. Victoria did really well on Johnnie Bach, coming 1st in the M&M Novice working hunter, 2nd in the Junior M&M ridden and 3rd in the young handlers class. A very happy 12 yr old girl going home ! Saith Magical Amber was a bit nervous - not as much as I was - but Tracey was excellent in riding her and giving her confidence. She went into the ring and when it was her turn to do the individual show, everything seemed to happen ! A very loud bang, clapping for the next ring, all the horses coming out of the next ring, including JB whom she saw ! So it was eventful, but Tracey coped well and we had our first 1st with her under saddle. Great day and Amber will learn so much from that show, especially as she has only had about 10 rides on her since broken ! She's a good mare, needs maturing now and only time can do that. Showing season started ! So enjoyed the day even though it was long - more of those on the way though ! LOL. Cant wait to get naughty Dream out - now that is going to be fun !
|
|
Welsh Cobs Diary 25 Feb 2005
Tracey came on Wednesday and we both rode. I rode a very naughty Dream and she rode Amber. She went so well, cantered on the right leg every time ! Whereas Dream, who is supposed to know decided to do everything she could to upset Amber. She pulled faces at her, rushed past her when she got in front, cantered when we were supposed to be trotting - it was just so funny. I think she was a bit jealous ! She then showed off and extended the whole of the field, with me hanging on in fits of laughter, she was almost saying to Amber - see thats how its done ! Welsh cobs - people just dont know what they are missing if they dont have one ! We hopefully will be showing on Sunday with Amber, weather permitting, and I should be able to get some photos for the Saith web page. Lots of people are contacting me with a view to buy a ridden. Unfortunately we dont have any ridden at the moment, but if you want to go onto www.horsequest.co.uk this has a section D Welsh cob part with loads of Welsh cobs on there for sale. We only have the boys for sale, Storm, Morgan and DK and they are only 2.

Welsh Cobs Diary 21 Feb 2005
Just got back from a week's skiing in America. What fun ! I think I enjoyed the Apres ski bit the best ! Rode Dream first time today, so now must have a bath - otherwise will be a bit sore tomorrow. Tracey had Amber for the week and she is now walking trotting and cantering, havent ridden her today, but will tomorrow. That will be fun ! Boys are down from the top field now as its our hay field and they look a bit hairy to say the least. They will have to stay in for a little while until we have sorted out one of our more "secure" fields as Storm likes to jump ! He follows his dad ! Great news about JB. He entered a show jumping competition on Friday and was in a "team". He had to compete in 3 different jumping courses and only had one fence down. The "team" came 1st and Victoria was over the moon as she had a grooming kit as a prize ! So now its back to reality and working hard towards the showing season and getting some courage to do more show jumping. If anyone knows of any fun rides please email me !

Welsh Cobs Diary 5 Feb 2005
Had a stud visit from some lovely people today, Collette and Mark Williams from Northampton. They looked at all the wet bedraggled horses and then went onto another stud in Lampeter. Really enjoyed it, even though, we had no biscuits / cakes and forget to get them to sign the visitors book ! Must start getting myself more organised again. It was just so nice to show them our cobs and we hope they enjoyed it to. Although I must try not to talk so much ! ha ha.

Welsh Cobs Diary 4 Feb 2005
Had a funny day today, firstly got my bottom wet ! I was day dreaming sitting on the edge of the tank watching the boys play and waiting for the water to fill up. Well you can imagine, I didnt look that often and then I realised that the tank was full when I had a soaking wet jeans ! Then went to watch JB and Victoria being trained at Talygarn Riding Centre with a Russian olympic Rider who is based in West Wales. Now I may have got that wrong, but will get full details soon. He was teaching show jumping and here is a picture of Saith Johnnie Bach jumping and jumping in Welsh cob fashion. Victoria's main focus is the WP&CS (Welsh Pony & Cob Society) Performance Show held at Brecon every year. Its a lovely show and hopefully Tracey and Victoria would have brought JB on enough to do all the classes. These include, dressage, working hunter, show jumping, cross country and showing over 2 days.

|
Welsh Cobs Diary 3 Feb 2005
Had some show schedules through today - at last I can start to dream (with Dream!) with probably thousands of other competitors as to Welsh Cob Champion ! Its just great that the long winter is now ending and now thinking of how many rugs I can get on them to get the hair out, and should I start bringing them in or leave them out ! They are out until I come back from a skiing holiday - but our 1st show is on 27th at Badgeworth Arena and ummm Im thinking we are going to have hairies ! Dream is clipped, but since it was my 2nd attempt, it does look a bit strange in places ! So no big hopes for her until her summer coat comes through. There is a show jumping clinic in Hand stadium Im thinking of taking her to. Just to get some confidence in her and me. I still can only jump 1ft and my aim is to do working hunter, so I must be able to do 2 ft 6. So I might just go for that. Body protector at the ready !!!

Welsh Cobs Diary 2 Feb 2005
Very happy news today - Saith Johnnie Bach our welsh cob gelding has been sold to Tracey and Victoria Bertorelli. They have had him on loan for the winter and just cant part with him ! I am over the moon as he really couldnt have a better home. So watch this space as he is destined for great things ! Victoria is only 12 and has clicked with JB so much. She will be concentrating on his jumping more and just generally enjoying him. I can only say that it this has been a very happy day today, and I wish them all the best of luck with him and know that he will be safe and sound in their capable hands. Tracey is a BSHII and so talented with re- training horses. I have never met anyone that rides so well and has so much passion for Welsh cobs and their ability to perform plus the fact that Tracey is such an optimistic person and even when things get tough will strive to get the best out of our cobs. Tracey is the person I aspire to and to buy JB, is a real honour for us. Its kinda of sadness as well though, as JB and I have been through so much together, winning Supreme of shows and just generally growing up together. (me growing older I should say !! ) He is such a smart lad and just loves his work, and gives 100%. - Dont you just love welshies !!! At least I have Storm coming up behind him and looking just as good !! Good luck Tracey and Victoria !!!

Welsh Cobs Diary 26 Jan 2005
Here is JB with Tracey on Boxing day. This picture was in her local Bridgend Recorder with an article about hunting. He did enjoy himself that day. He is in the middle. Amber was going so well today until a shotgun went off in the next field. She turned into a quivering mess. So glad Tracey stayed on, but that was training finished for the day. I think it will be back to basics for Amber, until her confidence comes back. Oh well !!!
|
|
Welsh Cobs Diary 24 Jan 2005
Tracey came up today to help train Amber. We are still at the beginning stage with her - with me in the centre of the school and tracey riding and me with the lunge just keeping her going. Today we decided to take her off the lunge and just used the lunging whip to keep her going. She went really well, until I wandered off to the corner - she stopped dead !!! Tracey trying everything encouraging to get her moving again, but no she wasnt having it until I came back into the middle, then off she went - her security blanket back in place.!! It was just so funny, theres me thinking that she was going SO well, and working easily - just goes to show they are always one step ahead. Tracey is coming back up on Wednesday, so fingers crossed she will go on her own !

Welsh Cobs Diary 18 Jan 2005
Moved Dragon and Annie off our bog field - its just been so wet this year - down to a lovely 2 acre field with a fresh water stream going through it. They will stay there now until the visiting mares come. Had to put this in. Its from Julie who bought Saith Stef from us a few years ago now. This is a typical Welshie !!! Just thought I would write a quick note to say Stef has just cost me a few extra pennies in replacing plants!! He has very cheekily been pinching plants out of pots from a ladies garden by somehow managing to stretch his neck big time over a flint wall whilst in the field. He hasn't been eating them (thank goodness) just picking them up, swinging the pots about until the plants came out and basically trashed them but making sure the remains ended up in the garden. The owner of the unfortunate plants saw all this going on and just did not get to them in time ha ha!!! The lady did laugh about it as did her husband at the time it was going on. As I said, thankfully he did not eat any of them and none were poisonous which was I have to say my first though! We have now fenced the area off away from the flint wall so unless he takes it into his head to jump it, the new plants should be safe! Oh, forgot to say, the field he and Ben are in is at least 6 acres! You would think he would have better things to do wouldn't you? It was so funny reading that from Julie. Typical welshie doing his thing !

Welsh Cobs Diary 14 Jan 2005
Today was just wonderful. Took Dream out for a 2 and half hour hack with two friends and went for a fantastic gallop, they were a bit faster than us, but we sort of kept up. Then found some jumps and did those. I was really looking forward to the show at Badgeworth Arena this weekend, but poor Steve is suffering still with his back so we cant go as I cant drive the box. If anyone is interested in the box, Im selling her now as I need a smaller one for me to drive. Such a shame as she is a grand one and a good runner. I wanted to go as they have a working hunter class. Just wanted to see if Dream is up for it, as she seems to jump anything in her path now. May be a bit different in the ring though LOL. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 13 Jan 2005
We hope that everyone can now enjoy reading about our wonderful cobs and their adventures with this new diary. Of course, now I can bore people even more by nattering on about my fun with our Welshies. Since last year, Dream has become Supreme Champion under saddle at a Christmas Show in aid of Trallwm Farm which helps horses and other animals. I was really pleased about this as this is her first 1st and champion and then Supreme since we bought her back. We are on Amber now and walking around the fields. There will be loads of updates on her training. So hopefully on a weekly basis, or whenever something exciting happens this will be the place that I can share it on. Photos as well as soon as I can figure out how to do it LOL. H
