Probably wont get a chance again, so wanted to wish EVERYONE a very happy Christmas and an exciting (?) new Year. Been a sad year for us and Dragon will be with us in his stock and hopefully looking down on us. So next year is going to be better !! Im off on hols for a few weeks and then Johnnie will be brought back slowly into work and getting him used to a few early shows to see what I have to work on. Steve will have Tiffany to play with - which will be exciting to watch as she is quite spirited ! HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR FROM ALL AT SAITH STUD

Welsh Cobs Diary 7 Dec 2006
SUPERB NEWS TODAY !! Firstly, yearling Welsh Cob Saith Magical Ffion has arrived safely in Pheonix Arizona, USA and the photo to prove it. Bet she is pleased she is in sunshine !!! Secondly, 3 yr old welsh cob Saith Black Storm came 2nd (again!!) in the WP&CS High Point gelding scheme. Better still Saith Morgan, came 4th and Saith DK came 6th !!! Thirdly, and just as good, if not better, Welsh cob Saith Magical Dream is definitely in foal to Wishaw Revelation. Also Glantraeth Cindy is in foal to Dragon. This will be Dragon's last foal, sad, but nice that its out of our foundation mare and will be homebred. So 3 foals hopefully, next year for Saith ! Good day today ! LOL H

Welsh Cobs Diary 29 Nov 2006
What about this weather then ! Had to bring all the horses in at night otherwise they wil be getting webbed feet. We have 2 new swimming pools now without planning permission ! LOL and I hate mucking out. So cant wait until it dries out a bit and they can all stay out then. Saith JB's back is still a bit sore after the fun ride and Im looking into a new saddle called the balance saddle - if anyone knows any info on it, please email me. Good and bad ! Paith magical Coriander is huge now and I cant wait to see what she produces this year. If its a colt we will keep this one uncut, so we have something of Dragon. Here is a picture of Welsh cob Saith DK up in Merseyside, winning 1st and Reserve Champion at Lancs WP&CS show on Sunday. He is filling out nicely and Liz has already sat on him and he was as good as gold. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 24 Nov 2006
Today Welsh Cob Saith Magical Ffion left the farm for the adventurous journey across the pond to America. Its going to take about 2 weeks before Ffion gets to Wendy's place and I hope she arrives ok. Wendy hopes to hunt (American style) and jump Ffion when she is older and eventually breed from her. Here she is yesterday in that terrible rain. I had kept her rugged up and it was nice and sunny and I put her into a field with some nice grass. Walked back to the shed and the heavens opened. I peeked out and she, mum and sister Tiff, were all tucking into the grass, so I thought ok, she's wet now anyway, so let her have an hour munching ! Brought her in and gave her a good rub to get her dry again. So our first Export overseas, Steve said she is going to travel further than he has ! LOL Good luck Wendy, and good luck Ffion, hope you arrive ok. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 20 Nov 2006
The fun ride yesterday was superb. Managed to stay on ! LOL. He was such a good boy, we did some jumps as well. It was a lovely day and I found out that its on each month. Regardless of the weather. Cant move today. Just going up to see what he is like, probably fine knowing JB. Not looking forward to getting on him in a couple of days, I think its going to hurt ! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 17 Nov 2006
Saith Black Storm has gone up to Cheshire today. He is on loan to Stephanie for 2 years and we wish her loads of fun and luck with him. Also have heard the news that our welsh cob yearling Saith Magical Ffion is off on 1st December to America. Fingers crossed that everything goes to plan. Hopefully going on a fun ride on Sunday, with Saith JB, but the weather does not look good ! Had a great lesson with Sue this week and JB actually kept in a really nice outline, until we cantered ! LOL. So this should be an exciting ride on Sunday, if we go ! We seem to be wittling down. But worked out that Paith Magical Coriander is due in January ! Ohh cold baby ! She hasnt been in foal for 3 years and was just out with Dragon who served her regularly, and we saw him serving her at the end of February last year, didnt think anything about it. Thinking now though ! Welsh cob Saith Magical Amber is doing really well with Sue, dressaging and now for the last few weeks had a bit of fun hunting with the Glamorgan. She loved it ! Jumped really well and kept up. Still havent found a replacement for Dragon. Keep looking everywhere. So frustrating. We will use outside stallions if we cant find one. Just keep thinking of him. Anyway, once in a lifetime offer ! We have completed the 2006 limited edition DVD of our current welsh cobs on the stud, and some last clips of Dragon in July 2006 month before he was lost to us. If anyone wants a copy, send me an email and I'll send details. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 22 Oct 2006
went to the sales yesterday and today looking for another dragon, no such luck. I really fancied a beautful pally filly, oh she was sweet, but steve dragged me away. ahhhh. Im definitely going to persuade him to put charm to the janton stallion to get me a pally - hankering for one now ! LOL Stef came down to have a look at Storm to take him for training on loan for a few years. Im so busy with saith Johnnie bach, and with winter coming on, storm needs to be started. So very grateful to Stef for taking him on for us. Her aim is to have his picture on the cover page of the Horse and Hound ! That girl's got ambition LOL Box is being plated, and miss it like mad. Havent had any lessons for a while and missing them too. Hopefully it will be back this week. We want to start taking Johnnie to the beach and sand dunes to strengthen him up. Going to look for a fun ride soon for us, missing the buzz of showing now - need a rush. Hopefully over the winter, there will be a nice stallion out there for us. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 2 Oct 2006
Saith Magical Amber did two dressage tests today at Talygarn Riding centre. She was very tense to start with but came good and came 2nd in prelim 4 and 2nd in prelim 18. I was very pleased and excited as Sue has only trained her about 5 times before this test and she has so much more to give. Its a pleasure to watch Saith Magical Amber doing dressage, she seems so right for it ! LOL H

He is a challenge and Im looking forward to it. Had a lovely ride on him yesterday and will be continuing his education by going down to the airport soon ! LOL Had a problem with planes with Saith Magical Dream, so Im making sure with Johnnie ! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 24 Sep 2006
Since we have bought Saith Johnnie Bach back and I need to re-school him, and I have to start on Saith Black Storm as well, poor charm has been left out and not worked on. Steve and I would like to loan her out for a period of time to an experienced person. She has been broken and was going well, and has been turned away for about 6 weeks. So she would have to be started again for a couple of weeks. She needs more work on the ground, but is very nice to ride and responsive. Charm is 4 years old, very kind and loving, easy to catch, farrier, box. Done really well in in hand showing and has a fantastic temperament. Lives in or out. Steve and I would love to see her education continued but obviously with a experienced person, used to bringing on babies. If anyone would be interested get in touch with me She would love a gentle patient person, who loves to jump and show and do dressage, as she is performance bred. Also did well in the show today with storm came 2nd ! beating mature stock. ~Very pleased with him. Take care H

Welsh Cobs Diary 23 Sep 2006
Steve had a great time at Blackpool and this weekend we are off to a show. Unfortunately big boy is slightly lame at the moment and we are having him treated. JB is coming along brillantly with his re-training. I just hope it continues ! He is such a lovely fella, but seems so big compared to the rest of his brothers and sisters - LOL . Will be posting new photos of him soon. Did some today, but my video camera decided to not work properly. The weather has been beautiful and all the welsh cobs are so contented at the moment. Winding down for winter and still looking for our next stallion. The sales are coming up soon and maybe there might be something there. H

Busy weekend. Went to the Menai sale with Steve and Chris and really enjoyed it, lovely day beautiful weather. The A's moved so well ! Then off to Derby area on Sunday to pick up BB (Big Boy!) Dragon. Took about 3.5 hrs getting there and about 4.5hrs getting back. He is big ! LOL Nice fella though and settled down straight away with Harmony. All ok with Saith welsh cobs, and of course Saith Shires ! LOL H

Welsh Cobs Diary 7 Sep 2006
Piccie of Storm at the show. Dream has now retired and looks so scruffy in the field today ! Moved most around now ready for the autumn and trying to save a bit of grass for the mares next year. If all goes to plan we should have 4 foals! Doing lots of ground work with welsh cob JB and he enjoyed a walk out in hand today. He is beautiful and Im so proud of him. We will be going to the Menai Sale on Saturday, I'll have my jacket on - so if anyone reads this before, please say hello ! Whether I will be able to reply, not sure as they are having a champers breakfast. Steve said he would drive back and probably just drop me outside the front door for my husband to pull me into the house ! LOL Then its off to get our lovely new addition The Big Boy. !! BB for short ! 17hh black shire for Steve to ride. A bit of a way, but will be worth it for the youngsters to feel safe out hacking. Steve is then off on a stag weekend do, and then its back to hacking out and trying to do some dressage as long as its prelim 4. ! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 2 Sep 2006
Been showing yesterday and today. Welsh cob gelding Saith Black Storm went to SWPA and came 2nd yesterday, but got the hang of it, and came 1st and Champion today !!! I was so pleased. The judge just loved him and said "he just did it for me" yep I was ok with that. JB is settling back down well and will be starting on him soon with my instructor Sue Bater BHSI (she is fantastic!) She has Saith Magical Amber at the moment and is starting to seriously train her for dressage. I think she will love JB as well. !! Everything is going so well. I said to Steve that I need to write all this down and when it all goes wrong, read about these couple of weeks - that will get me through ! Show tomorrow again 4 days in a row. Dream came 3rd at Monmouth HOYS, have I said that ? She was tired though. Not fit ! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 31 Aug 2006
Welsh cob Saith Magical Dream came 3rd in the Monmouth HOYS qualifier this morning. I couldnt be there as my son is trying out for Cardiff district rugby and I was taxi driver. Really pleased since she hasnt been ridden much since her getting in foal and she has gone a bit hairy now ! Thats her last show this season and now will be a mum for a while. Bless ! Picture of Dream with Wendy, who has definitely bought welsh cob Saith Magical Ffion now. This was taken a few weeks ago up on the mountains of Wales. Not sure what they were both looking at ! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 29 Aug 2006
I think this week has been fantastic. Firstly, my son Pip getting 8 GCSE's - amazing ! Secondly, selling Ffion to Wendy in America Thirdly, getting a bombproof 17hh shire Dragon, to get steve riding. and now, Welsh cob SAITH JOHNNIE BACH is back home. Yes, we have bought him back ! Im just so pleased. Boomerang stud to the fore ! LOL Victoria just grew and he didnt ! As said a fantastic week. Doesnt make up for the loss of Dragon, but has helped. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 29 Aug 2006
Im still not sure whether its happened yet, but welsh cob Saith Magical Ffion has been bought by Wendy Borst of Moonlight Ranch of Welsh Cobs Pheonix Arizona. She is going to be Wendy's performance mare and later on a brood mare. Steve and I are so so excited about our FIRST EXPORT, although Steve says that exporting over the bridge is big enough ! LOL Here is Wendy and myself going for a hack on the Welsh mountains riding Dream and our new loan welsh cob mare Harmony. I know that Wendy will give Ffion an excellent home and I hope that Ffion gives Wendy a great time hunting jumping and dressaging ! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 29 Aug 2006
Well surprise, welsh cob Saith Black Storm actually won yesterday ! He didnt plod around and did a reasonable trot. I was shocked ! Here he is flying around the field. Kate came today (owner of welsh cob Saith Morgan) and had a look at Saith Magical Tiffany and the rest of our mob ! Had a lovely chat. We are also going to get a 17hh Shire for Steve to ride called.... Dragon ! We have been looking for a while really, but we had to get something that is bombproof and this ad came up on Whiteblazes and I jumped at it. It was a sign. So Dragon is coming on 10th September, not sure what our welsh cobs are going to think of him (as they all look up to him!) I shall be riding talking to steve's knee ! LOL. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 20 Aug 2006
Had a wonderful day today, looking a Coed Newydd Welsh Cobs in beautiful Gower. I was very impressed by the standard and the amount that we looked at ! Lovely people, Dai and Nancy. They have some lovely stock - so if anyone is looking, well worth going down there, foals, yearlings 2/3 yr olds, mares in foal etc. Lots to choose from and nice cobs. Give them a ring and go and see the stud. Dai has to reduce his numbers a bit (70!!). Lovely day ! H

Look at Saith Morgan ! Doesnt he just look lovely. Welsh cob Morgan is now 3 and sold to Katie who is in the process of breaking him for the ridden. I just couldnt believe how he looks. ! He has grown up so much. Katie took Morgan to Chepstow show and came 2nd in M&M and 3rd in Open youngstock. Excellent results !! Dragon would be been very proud. Well done Katie and Mogs !

Welsh Cobs Diary 13 Aug 2006
Wow what a really fun and busy week. We had a guest from America, Wendy Borst who stayed with us for the week with her friend Rosie from Thirsk. They were both great fun and both great friends. We rode...Dream bucked and totally showed me up, until went over the mountain when she turned into Super Cob ! LOL and had wonderful evenings out eating and bbq ing. Anyway it all worked (LOL) because Wendy has now asked us to vet Saith Magical Ffion our yearling welsh cob, with a view of buying her to export as a performance welsh cob, to AMERICA. Im sure it wasnt the wineing and dineing ! LOL. Wendy has been interested in Saith Magical Ffion for a year now and when we decided that we needed to sell one of our stock, asked us to wait until she came over. This (everything being ok) will be our first export and Im just so excited. It has made losing Dragon a bit easier and actually feel proud that one of his stock will be exported (fingers crossed it all goes to plan !) Things do change, and there are a few special people that have expressed a real interest in Ffion and waited until Wendy had made her decision. I would like to thank them for waiting. Just wish I had 3 of her ! Hopefully we will all meet up at Menai Stud's sale in Sept. Will sleep tonight. ! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 2 Aug 2006
Its a very sad day today. Steve and I had to put Dragon to sleep this morning. He was suffering from colic and it was the kindest thing to do. I just cant believe it at the moment. But we both didnt want him to suffer anymore. He was a good Welsh cob with substance bone and beauty. We shall miss you Dragon. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 30 Jul 2006
Saith Magical Ffion is going to be for sale. We have an American friend coming over to see her in a few weeks and if they dont click, then she will be for sale. We shall announce it on the web page either way ! She is an exceptional filly with excellent breeding and movement as well as very friendly and sparky. She will excel in showing both in hand and under saddle and has the most amazing welsh cob movement. Hocks and knee as well as extension. We are looking for a special home for her and it will be vetted. This is a very sad sale for us as I had high hopes taking her to Olympia and HOYS !! We have had a few enquiries within in the last couple of weeks, but to be honest, we have had loads since she was born and I think it is only fair that everyone who was interested, should have a chance. Of course, we have to see whether she is sold and goes off to American or not !!

Welsh Cobs Diary 29 Jul 2006
Back from Cyprus, relaxed and feeling good again ! No mucking out ! and even better no housework ! LOL. All the welsh cobs were fine and Steve coped with the extremely hot weather really well, and of course so did our cobs. !! NPS next week and our very own SAITH FLINT has qualified for the Pictons ! which if you are a regular reader you'll already know, but I had to say it again ! Georgie had a great time at the Royal Welsh with him and he had a fantastic conformaton mark of 44, but was a bit novicey in his ridden. so wasnt placed in the top 6. Georgie rang and said how much she enjoyed it since it was his first "big" show ! So proud of him and Georgie. He looked fantastic too ! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 17 Jul 2006
THE MOST FANTASTIC NEWS Saith Flint has qualified for the Pictons championship at the NPS August show. We are so pleased for Georgie and James. Its brilliant news, as he is so young and as Georgie has told me, needs time to mature some more. Steve is delighed, but Im totally jealous ! Been trying for years !!! Not Fair !!! LOL Well done Flint ! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 13 Jul 2006
Went to Northleach on Saturday. Just took Storm and he came last !!! Apparently he went in with tail over the back and prancing, and by the time I got to the ring with camera in hand, he was as flat as a pancake ! LOL Really enjoyed the show though and some beautiful cobs. Watched the Olympia class and Sydenham Ixia won. (have a Sydenham colt foal for sale !!) So off to Bridgend the next day, and came 3rd with Storm and I took Dream in, in hand. Well, normally in hand Dream pins her ears back and makes faces all the way around and I have to drag her. Not that day !!! She danced and cantered on the spot and pranced, it was wonderful ! It was like the old Dream coming back. Large class and we came 2nd. I was over the moon I must say. Lovely day apart from the rain ! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 6 Jul 2006
Well what a day !!! Royal Show yesterday Got there in good time no problems with the traffic - Robert rode Amber in and she went ok. Separated Dream and Amber and went to the class. Amber was a bit tense, but coping well. Planes came over - Dream was a bit tense..... Then the cavalary came past with the cannons, Amber even more tense, then the drays came past and to cap it all the cavalary shot their cannons 6 in total with all cannons firing at once at the end. Dream actually stood, but poor Amber totally lost it and was very upset. Robert coped and off he went into the class and Amber went ok around with everyone. Robert just let her do her thing and didnt ask too much. Dream went well and relaxed. Brought in in any order (brilliant way to judge large classes) and then the judging began. Unfortunately Amber was at the end of the line and was first in the conformation. She did that and then just couldnt keep still just danced and danced. I felt for her, and was on the verge of taking her out really. Robert said, no we shall just carry on and let her get used to it. Any bang of any sort however small was making her jump. Dream went out to do her display, just before that the hounds started barking and Dream thought she was off hunting and started shaking. Dream went in front of the judge and a plane that had already gone over, decided to do a double take and come back, low. !!! She managed to keep control and Dream went on to do a lovely display and a great gallop. Then it was Amber's turn. As she was just going out we had 2 huge 4 horse drawn coaches come up behind her. She then had another loud bang and I thought, oh well. She got out there and literally just put on the brakes. Robert rode her really well and managed to get her into canter on the one corner, but had real problems on the second corner and when asked for an extension, Amber just put the brakes on and went back into trot. She just couldnt cope with it all. Then came the results. They called everyone out to 10th place and Dream wasnt in it, so back to the box and food ! for both humans and horses !!! Steve and Tracey decided to pop down and see the results before we left, and then I had a phone call " We were third" what I said "we were third !!" The Royal show had missed us out !!! I couldnt believe it, it took us an hour and half to sort it out with the office admin. It was very bitter sweet moment, fantastic coming third, but so sad that we werent there in front of everyone to enjoy the moment. Dream didnt deserve that. Apparently another pony in another HOYS qualifier also missed out on coming forward. The Royal Show is one of the top shows in the country and I was very very surprised that this could happen at such a presteigious show. It did and nothing we can do about it now. Shame for Dream though. Amber came 3rd from the end !! Understandably. LOL. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 4 Jul 2006
Rode Saith Magical Charm for the first time today. She was a star, just couldnt quite understand my canter aid, but we got there in the end. She went really well and I think after a few months of just having a bit of fun we might actually venture into the show ring ! I felt really good on her ! She felt safe ... unusual for me ! LOL Saith Magical Dream and Saith Magical Amber are off tomorrow for the welsh cob class HOYS at the Royal of England show. Robert Pink has very kindly said he would ride Amber for me, and of course Tracey is riding Dream. I hope it isnt this hot tomorrow ! We shall have a lovely day anyway, and I just hope they both dont lose it ! LOL Embarrassing or what !! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 2 Jul 2006
Here is Storm and Ffion at yesterday's show. Fantastic day !!! Storm came 1st in M&M and 2nd in Welsh, then reserve champion Gelding. Ffion came 4th welsh and 1st M&M. She was a good girl, only a few little strops. I was so pleased. She trotted with me, which at home, we were having a few problems. Ffion boxed easily and loaded without trouble each time, travelled really well too. The day was lovely although very hot! This is a picture of them both

Welsh Cobs Diary 19 Jun 2006
Bit gutted as we arent going to the Royal Welsh Show. My entry was late getting there, 4 days, so thats it. Never mind, these things happen, but but but !!!! Just seems to be a bit of a year so far ! losing the foal, Amber and I are definately having a clash of personalities at the moment, and just those constant little things that keep going wrong. Now to top it all - RW !!! I dont know why Im grumping ! Where's the Cava ! LOL. Never mind Charm will be home soon and Im hoping that she and I will get on better than I am with Amber. We seem to have a few brilliant days and the rest is hard work - for both of us ! LOL. Steve is desparately doing the hay and you just cant talk to him when he's hay making ! His brain waves change pattern ! LOL Onwards and forwards, it will be nice to watch the RW - ummmm - maybe Peter and I will book our hols that week. LOL !! H

Here's Dragon cooling off in the barn yesterday - cant believe him. He lives out in the winter - blowing howling gales, rain, hail - everything, couple of hot days and its "can I come in please" !!! So he's happy in the barn for a few more days until this weather cools down again. Rode Amber today, she went well and is getting much more relaxed now. Tiffany is just beautiful and I must not get attached !!! Everyone else is doing fine and Im really enjoying the hot weather. Annie is going back to her owners this weekend and I have to thank them so much for letting us keep her for Dragon. Going to be strange without her. Hope the weather holds, Steve is thinking of cutting hay on Monday ! LOL Guaranteed to rain !! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 5 Jun 2006
The foal is going from strength to strength and looking more lovely every day, but then I am baised !! Tracey and Steve made the long journey to midlands county, but unfortunately didnt come anywhere. The good news is that Dream actually went really well and kept it all together and performed as she should ! Typical when the judge doesnt like her type ! But we only learn these things afterwards ! Expensive lesson this one was. ! LOL Grumpy Old Women was just brill. I havent laughed that much in ages ! Will try and get some more photos of the baby soon. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 3 Jun 2006
Here she is, our new Saith Stud welsh cob Filly. We arnt too sure of her name yet, either Tabitha, or Tiffiny, but what a wonderful day yesterday, apart from the beautiful weather, we went to Bath and West Show and Dream and I came 8th out of about 40 quality natives !! I was so surprised and after having the filly foal (not me Cindy !) and coming 8th - wow. Dream lost it when we had flying geese behind a microlite plane came over the ground ! Oh that was it ! So we jogged around, but she did a great trot and kept going and I tried to stop her, but she wasnt having it. It was brilliant fun and one of those wonderful days that I will remember for a long time. Played with T all day today, and Tracey and Steve are off to Midlands County tomorrow. I cant go as Im going to see Grumpy old Woman ! Bit apt on times !! So here are some pictures of her one day old. She is for sale, but.... but...... but.... LOL H

Welsh Cobs Diary 1 Jun 2006
Went to Swansea County show and Dream was a tad naughty ! LOL !! Much better in Crick and came 5th in the Olympia qualifier. Saith Magical Charm has gone off to be broken by Jamie Baldwin (Janton stud) and should be back in 6 weeks or so. Looking forward to that ! Took visiting mare back to Dave & Sue harris's yesterday when we dropped off Charm. Had a lovely stud tour and if anyone is looking for a really good colt foal, go there !!! Dave has one that is just fantastic. I've not seen movement like it in a baby, knees and extension at 10 days old. Stunning little lad too. - ah if only I had the money !!! Their stud is the Pennal stud, and Dave has 4 colts up there at the moment that are of really good quality and well worth a visit if anyone is in the looking market. They have a web page, but I dont think the colts are on it yet. So long day travelling, but had fun today with dream and my lesson ! She is a star, well naughty ! LOL. Im actually riding her tomorrow at Bath & West, so there should be some fireworks there ! Then she is off to Midlands County show with Tracey on Sunday. Cindy is getting close now and Im hoping that she will go early evening, or middle of the day, or even, at 10.00 oclock in the morning !!! YEA !! In my dreams, it will be a 2am and then we have to wait until the foal suckles and then fall back in bed for an hour and up to get the kids off to school. Ah the joys of breeding ! Really pleased how Ffion is coming on though. She is starting to fill out a bit and not look so gangally. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 26 May 2006
Been hard this week, we lost the foal out of Harmony, then got a lovely section A orphan foal and he died too !!! Poor Harmony, she really attached to this one. Rang everyone, and every sanctuary that we could think of, but no orphan foals, so we have to dry her off now. Such a shame, a wonderful mother, kind and loving. At least Bill was loved for his 2 days. Off to Swansea in the mud tomorrow and then Crick on Sunday. Dream hates the rain, even though she lives out in it ! So not sure how she will do. Probably just get cold and not want to move ! LOL We are back to winter this week, all the fields are mud, brought Cindy in and Ffion for company, until this rain dries off, all the rest have to put up with it. !! So we have to keep looking onwards, Dragon is proud father of 2 fillies and 1 colt this year so far ! Not that he worries about maintenance ! LOL. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 21 May 2006
Very sad day for us today. Harmony, a mare that is kindly on loan to us, produced a still born. Beautiful perfect filly with 4 white socks. I am very upset about it all but luckily Harmoney is fine and is coping very well. We know things like this happen, and we have been very lucky to be breeding for so long without any real problems. Just hard at the moment. So only one foal this year with Cindy. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 3 May 2006
Great news about Saith Flint, we sold to Georgie and James as a yearling a few years ago. He has started his ridden showing and last show came 3rd in the NPS Pictons. So fingers crossed he can get there.
Brought Harmony up today, she is due to foal in 3 weeks and we are looking forward to seeing another beautiful foal by Dragon. Cindy is not long afterwards. So watch this space ! Lots of Welsh cob foals ! LOL. Will be putting photo's of Harmony on the web and her breeding too as she is staying on loan for a little while with us. Dragon busy with his visiting mares and enjoying himself ! and amber had a huge knot in her back which may have accounted for her being so tense at the NPS show. Off to the WP&CS in hand senimar on Sunday and then hoping to find a few fun rides for Amber to go on. Windsor the following week. That should be fun. ! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 30 Apr 2006
oh what fun I had with Amber yesterday at the NPS Spring Festival. Thought that the problem was her tooth - no got that wrong ! Dream came too and ended up 5th in the Olympia class. Very pleased with that. Amber on the other hand is destined for tinned meat if she carries on like she is. She did a terrible display. In fact she did the complete opposite to the display you were meant to do ! She bronc'd about 5 times, she bucked and wrong legged it on every occasion that she could. She was so angry and mad that dream was in the box and she had to work. I've got alot to do with her this week and when we go to devon county with her Im hoping she will be a bit better. She will be on her own at that show as well, so that might help. I hope ! The only real positive thing was that I stayed on. !!! Youngsters ! Ugg !! Charm will be broken in shortly and then it all starts with her ! Dream was a bit naughty as well yesterday, must be the fact that they are on grass ! (at last) Helen, our visiting student, left us last night and she was a great help last week. Might go to a local show tomorrow to get her out again, - not too sure at the moment, still getting over yesterday ! LOL On days like that I just kept thinking Welsh Cobs - who'd have them !!! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 26 Apr 2006
Had a lovely stud visit from Owen and Rebecca from west Wales. Most of the cobs did a good display, although Dragon was outmatched by a visiting mare ! LOL. It was a really nice day, no rain ! and we remembered to get owen and rebecca to sign the visitors book ! LOL. Nice to have a tidy up as well ! LOL. Helen our student for the week, helped out tremendously ! Off for another lesson tomorrow and then Julian is coming over to do Amber's and Dream's backs. Dream lost her shoe today ! ahhhh so that will have to be fixed on Saturday at the show as we have booked the blacksmith for next friday ! Its all fun with Welsh Cobs ! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 23 Apr 2006
What a weekend we have had. Went to Lampeter Show, long way ! But lovely to be there again. Dream went into the Welsh class and came 4th, did a beautiful display and I was proud of her. Then into the NPS class and came 1st and Reserve champion, again doing a lovely display. Nice day and very very pleased with the result. Amazing first and reserve champ at Lampeter Stallion Show - wow ! Then today, went to Avon & Borders WP&CS assocation show. Took Charm in the end as Ffion still growing fast and not putting the weight on. She'll get there though. Anyway Charm went into the Welsh D and didnt come anywhere, but I enjoyed it and went into the M&M and she came 1st and then reserve champion. Totally over the moon with that. Steve took Storm in the D's and came 3rd and then 2nd in the m&m with me, as Steve's back was hurting a bit ! But I was glad he went in. Saw Saith Morgan he is huge ! I cant believe how much he has grown. Katie run him really well and I hope she enjoyed it. So the inter - Saith cup was mine today !! Lovely weekend and over the moon that Jane and Alex took Saith Magical Sapphire to a show and came 1st and Reserve champion ridden. Brilliant weekend ! Well worth the very very early starts ! bed now !! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 20 Apr 2006
Well what fun I had today. No tell the truth, I think Steve had better fun. !!! Took Dream to Susan's yard for a jumping lesson and she was so excited when she got off the box. I think Dream thought we were off on a fun ride. We got into the indoor arena, and Dream changed from wow lets go, to oh no schooling. I had ears flat back, bucking and the usual I dont want to school. So Susan put some jumps up and Dream started getting more excited. Great I thought, here we go. The first jump was huge and I held onto the mane. Susan kept trying to convince me that I had to let go of the mane and I held a little bit when Dream decided to take off a stride early, fly over the wings (felt like it) and then land and do 6 bronco bucks with me !! What is it, I thought to myself, hanging on to this tiny bit of mane and seeing the ground getting blurry ! Luckily I pushed her on and she stopped. Now my adreline was up ! So next jump and the madam did it again, this time I was ready and kicked her on and jumped again and she tried it again. I dont often lose my temper, but I did and all the fear goes out of me and is replaced with " who do you think you are dealing with !!!". So I made her jump around the arena a few times until she did it happily and without trying it on - with Susan's voice in the background saying, OK heather next one you can stop. I wasnt stopping until she did it right ! Wow, I was now totally drenched and so was Dream ! But I did it and proud that I stayed on and got her over the jumps. She has such a fantastic jump in her and Susan said how she jumps so correctly ! Just wish she could say the same about me. Steve was laughing his head off when it was all over - oh I wish I had a camera, was all that he was saying ! YEA !!! Enjoyed it though, even if I was hanging on most of the time. LOL Getting her ready for Lampeter tomorrow and then Ffion (still hasnt enough weight) and Storm,( too much weight) for Avon & Borders, Im going to have to start training storm now as he is a good doer and is putting weight on very easily ! So cant wait to settle down after the housework and have a drink of Cava ! Ahhh Life is full of surprises and me staying on is one of them ! LOL H

Welsh Cobs Diary 19 Apr 2006
This weather is driving me nuts !!! Hopefully still be around after tomorrow to chat to everyone ! Dream is taking me jumping, and Im hoping to get up to 2ft 6 inches. Hoping being the operative word ! LOL. Amber seems recovered from her ordeal, and is happily enjoying a week off. So quiet again, looking forward to the weekend to do some shows ! Lots of bathing (weather permitting) on Friday though. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 16 Apr 2006
Saith Magical Amber had her HUGE wolf tooth out on Friday and boy was it big ! So hopefully thats the problem. Trying to get her back sorted now and then she is ready to start training again. Taking Dream for a jumping lesson on Thursday ! Oh that should be fun ! LOL. Dream certainly has a Welsh Cob jump in her ! Can I hold on though. Still no grass and fed up with feeding hay for them now. Cindy is getting bigger by the day and is due in June. Ffion has had another growth spurt and lost all her weight again, so unless I can get some on her before Sunday she wont be going to Avon & Borders WP&CS show. ! I hope I can because she moves so well. Storm is looking great so he is definitely going. Got to get the points on him for the gelding championship. Still smarting about Lampeter that only he was booked in ! Typical would have had great points that day ! So no shows this weekend and its been weird, as we normally are flat out over Easter, but make up for it next week at Lampeter and Avon & Borders. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 11 Apr 2006
On Saturday went to Yeovil and the South Western Association of the Welsh Pony & Cob Society spring show. Lovely place and not too far away. Took Saith Black Storm and this was his first show since being supreme as a foal, so not too sure how he was going to be. Steve was itching to show and decided he would try him and I was so pleased that they both enjoyed it. Steve was brought in 3rd and moved up to 1st and was also Members champion, so great day for Steve. He did suffer afterwards though, and is still hobbling even today ! Saith Magical Amber, on the other hand, was very naughty and a very kind Mr. Pink offered to ride her for me as I lost my bottle. She came 3rd in the Pictons. Anyway, took her to Susan's today and she rode her and said that there is something wrong with her. She checked her teeth and saw a very large wolf tooth !!! Ah ha!!! So that could be the problem. Got to sort vet out now to take it out and have her back checked over just in case its something to do with that as well. As Susan said, she's gone past all this and its just not like her. Im just so glad its not my riding ! LOL. Lovely day on Saturday and now wondering what Im going to ride ! Going to have a few jumping lessons with Susan with Saith Magical Dream, now that should be fun ! LOL H

Welsh Cobs Diary 11 Apr 2006
Fantastic day at West Midlands Stallion Show on Thursday. Dream went into the HOYS class with 40 other Welsh Cobs C's and D's. We really werent sure how she would go as Tracey has only schooled her once since Olympia, and she has only been hacking out with me for the past 3 weeks, so not really muscled up yet. We came 6th and 2nd highest ride mark. Very pleased. Our conformation mark was low, but considering she is out and not really being fed for the show ring, I can understand it. Saith Magical Dream then went into the M&M dressage/sport pony and did a beautiful display with low flying planes zooming over head ! She came 1st and then went on to become champion. Brilliant ! Tracey rode her fantastically again and I watched with envy ! Great day and loved being back with Dream. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 2 Apr 2006
went to Forest of Dean Stallion show yesterday - excellently run. Amber was like a wet dish cloth ! Came 3rd in the Welsh ridden and way down in the novice. She just hasnt got any ommph in her. So maybe a few oats (ahhhh!) She just seems to get nervous in the individual. My nerves were good this time, not travelling down, but once I got on, we were ok. Really enjoyed it and met some old friends. Dragon has 2 visiting mares so happy at the moment, even though neither are in season ! LOL. He has his work cut out for him. Box in to be serviced this week and then off to Hoys on Thursday with Tracey and Dream. It will be nice to be a groom for the day ! Hopefully meet up with loads more friends at that one. Apparently 40 cobs booked in. Should be fun ! h

Welsh Cobs Diary 26 Mar 2006
This weekend was mine and Saith Magical Amber's first dressage test together. I cant believe how scary it was ! I had gone over the test (prelim 4 - easy one) 100's of times and felt confident that I could do it without being called. I was dubious at it being called as Steve messed it up many years ago - so I had to get it right in my head. ! We got there with only half an hour and it was a bit of a panic, but she coped well. As my readers know, my nerves are a big issue (as well as the riding !) and Amber normally gets very upset when I get tense, but she seemed to cope alot better with my nerves in the test. We did everything right, except me panicing at the end as to where I was supposed to stop cantering ! The funniest thing was that Amber will not stand square and Sue and myself had practiced our coming down centre line and halt for the past two lessons, Amber would not do it ! Typicial Welsh cob ! On the test we achieved 9 out of 10 for our end and she did the most perfect square as you can see from the photo ! Our dressage judge was an affiliated one, Mrs. S Clinch and so I was very pleased to have qualified for the championship at Sunnybank EC in September. I came out shaking ! More scary than under saddle showing. My position went again, but its good to see that I am improving, albeit slowly. We came 2nd out of 7 and boy was I over the moon with that. My instructor Sue said, great whens the next one ! LOL !!! Ohhh just dont know !! Its just great that welsh cobs are doing so well in dressage recently, with Pat Burn's horse winning the scottish dressage championships. It just shows how versatile Welsh Cobs are. My birthday next week, so starting on Monday and continuing through the week LOL and then our big show on Saturday. Already the nerves are kicking in for that, as Im taking Saith Magical Ffion in the in hand (still hairy !) and Amber hopefully in the ridden. Then it all starts with Dream going to the first HOYS qualifier along with half the country ! and then Lampeter and finally NPS Spring festival. Busy time, but excited about it all. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 26 Mar 2006
Last Sunday Steve and I took Amber to a local show - which was lovely ! - and Im so pleased to say that Saith Magical Amber came 1st. After having a week or so bucking, she got over this (I hope!) and is now going really nicely. I was so pleased with her and our training with Sue Bater BSHI is definitely starting to pay off. Here is a photo of her after being pulled in first by judge Mrs. E Newman.

Welsh Cobs Diary 11 Mar 2006
Amber and I were going to another show tomorrow, but luckily found a local show today and an afternoon class, so we went to that one. She was alot better this time, although still not getting out of her what she is capable of, she didnt buck and she went on the right leg and did everything right. I was over the moon, we came 2nd in the Ponies UK Llanarth Welsh C and D class and I was really happy. She wasnt as tense as last week (I was !) and seemed to be getting into it a bit more. My riding style still isnt right, and Im working on it like mad. ! Suffering too ! LOL But it was great fun and I really enjoyed it. Amber looked after me ! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 5 Mar 2006
My friends have been nagging me to put something on the diary. So what has happened in Saith Stud since Christmas ? Well, I decided at New Year that I would ride more in the shows and conquer my nerves. So since Tracey is madly in love with Dream, Amber would be mine to train and school and show. Now, since Im not a good rider I needed help in a big way. I found a person just 20 mins down the road. Susan Bater BHSI. Wow she is wonderful, doesnt shout, very knowledgeable and loves Amber. She is training me twice a week and although I need so much more than Amber, I feel that I am getting somewhere at last.! Well that was until today. ! We went to the SWA of the WP&CS show in Dorset. Bit of a way to go, but it was worth it. Amber was very tense and excited and I tried all that I was taught, but to no avail, she just was not listening to me, and each time I asked for canter it was a buck ! So went into the first M&M class and was carted around basically, but managed to keep her under control, - just . Was pulled in first - oh boy did my nerves kick in then. I think Amber probably felt the same, she did a lovely buck on transaction and I ended up last ! So worked her outside in the hail for a while trying to get her to listen to me. She was very good but still excited. The next class was the Welsh C and D, and again she went ok around with the others, at least this time I wasnt hanging on but riding her. We were brought in second and I was more relaxed. We did the first transaction, fine, no buck YES but in the second transaction, her head went up and she lost concentration on me, and when I asked, buck !!! ahhhhhhh, Well it wasnt as bad as the first one, more like a leap, so I think I was very lucky and got away with it more. I kept my second place as the others did some mistakes too. We've got a long way to go, but Im determined to get there. Only problem was my wonderful position that Susan has worked so hard on, went out the window with the nerves and the buck ! Its hard to change your riding after 30 years ! Amber and I will try really hard this year. I wlll never be able to ride like Tracey, but I hopefully will control the nerves and enjoy it ! Dream went on a few more rides, hunting and fun ones, and then had a 2 month holiday. I started riding her last week and oppps I should have continued riding her ! She was totally shocked and annoyed that I put the saddle on her ! and then decided that she would only plod and not go forward ! LOL Oh aren't Welsh cobs such fun !!! Steve's back has not been good and although he rallied splendidly when I went skiing, he is trying to lose some weight and get back to running in hand. I know he misses it terribly, but his back gets so bad on times, that he cannot even get up the farm. He finds it very hard, and I really feel sorry for him because when he sees the in hand, and then looks at Ffion, who is just so sparky and ready to show, I know he gets really frustrated ! Never mind - I'll just have to show her !!! do the double !! LOL So thats it showing starts properly in April - gulp !!! H
