Welsh Cobs Diary 19 Dec 2009
Wow its Cold !!! Listen to me moan about the rain, moan about the cold ! LOL Today we had a lovely visit from Cathy and Helen. Cathy has been looking for a cob since sadly hers passed away. They came up to see Sebastian and luckily he put all his charms on, and Cathy put a deposit on him. After trial period and vetting (fingers crossed) he will be going to his new home at the end of January 2010. It will be an amazing home for him, lots of walks and things to see and do, which he will love. We are so lucky to find people like Cathy who wants to take time with Seb and let him develop into the stunning horse he will become. Cathy and Helen couldnt even have a cup of Tea as the water was frozen, and we have no box as its still up at John Rose. Steve managed to hobble up and down the field and I left them out in the front field tonight (with access to their haylege) as it was so hard and they all seemed to be happy out there. Luckily the stream is still flowing in the field. Going out tonight, and a busy day tomorrow, giving blood in the morning after the horses have been done, and then sunday lunch and then back up check the horses, and off to a ball on Monday night. Ohhh love christmas. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 12 Dec 2009
Been quiet the last couple of weeks. Sad news about Steve, had his plaster off and then the doctor told him that he now has another 5 months with a splint. Im sure he paid the dr. ! He wont be around until May now, but will have to hobble up and do them in march for a week when I go skiing with my family. Tried Dream a few times last week with harry on her (dummy) and she really was not happy about it all - so thought that I would go back to the original plan of getting amber going and keeping JB going and putting dream back in foal until she is 14 and then bringing her out as a veteran. Did some work with Amber and she was really good. Next week put Harry on her and start taking her out walking. JB is a bit lame. Nothing serious and is getting better each day. Sebastian and JB play constantly in the field and Im wondering if he pulled it a bit. Good news about Saith Black Storm, Lucy won best Newcomer in the Brent Knoll riding club - really pleased about that. Saith Stefhan has a small video of him on our You Tube site. The foals are all shapes at the moment ! Growing so fast :) Just so lovely that its nice today, although I was face painting most of the day for our local village hall - didnt see much of it, but I know it was sunny. :) Still planning to get to the February show with either amber or jb - which should be loads of fun ! Well I ll be laughing, either being galloped off with jb or amber saying ummm bored now what can I do ? LOL Nearly Christmas ! So just in case I forget - have a lovely christmas and new year and really hope that everyone that reads my diary has an amazing 2010. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 30 Nov 2009
Had a lovely weekend away, in the rain (whats new ?) at Juliet's and Adrian's wedding. Lovely wedding and Juliet (owner of Charm and Tiffany) looked absolutely amazing ! Lovely people and had a great time just being with hubby for two whole days. Came back to a house that smelt of beer and couldnt see the kitchen floor ! lol so mucking out at home and mucking out at the farm. All the horses are fine and hopefully doing some more serious work today, robbie (son) lost his phone, and killed his car in the rain ! He went through a puddle a bit too fast. So back to transporting him all around. He had a good time though and no damage to the house - phew!! Had a lovely photo from Maureen (owner of Saith Revels Mojoe) of Joe's head in the NPS show. Talking of which, Saith Black Storm came 1st in hand at Avon & borders show on the weekend and 2nd in the Mountain and Moorland, beaten by a fell stallion. Lucy was over the moon with him. They couldnt stay for the championship or the ridden as Lucy was going somewhere. Lucy has also been asked to represent her local area in dressage with Storm. Such an achievement considering they have only been together for a short time. :) :) Angelica has settled in well and hopefully some up-dated photos to come over from Sweden soon. Camilla is really pleased with her and Im so relieved ! So nearly December - what a year - its flown by. Steve will be having his plaster off in a week and then hopefully doing alot of physio and losing weight. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 24 Nov 2009
BRILLIANT NEWS !!! Saith Magical Angelica (pictured here at a month old) has arrived in Sweden with Camilla. Oh boy I am so pleased and a day early !! Camilla was in work, so rushed home a bit early and rang me straight away. She has turned up in excellent condition (thank you Owen and the Nebo stud) and Camilla is over the moon with her. That was my biggest worry was that Camilla wouldnt like her in the flesh, as she bought her unseen, but my fears were dispelled as Camilla was very pleased with her. Now I can relax. Have been worried about her. Camilla said she was going to sleep with her tonight ! LOL Just so happy now. She has got there in one piece and in this wind and weather !! Im just so happy. !! :) :) Good luck to her and Camilla and Ulf, I hope she enjoys her as much as steve and I did. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 17 Nov 2009
At last found out where Pepper is lame, its on his heel, has a small cut there which you cant see, but noticed that he was sore around that area and started prodding and "yes" definitely found the spot. He let me poultice it and hopefully it will still be on tomorrow. I could not get them out of the barn today. Coriander, Amber, Pepper, Jazz and Ginger, all decided that it was much nicer to stay in the barn. The others (apart from Dream who is in the stable) all decided that they would come in and stay in as well. So Im mucking out and they all decided that when I have finished, they needed to give me more work ! LOL Ginger was the only one that wanted to go out - she would run out of the barn (tail over her back) and run back in, snort and run back out. Everyone else just watched her, and of course, me ! She looks amazing. So much presence in her. So I had to push them all out and close the gates. They all stood there looking at me, as if I had done something terrible to them. Eventually wandered into the field and dream was in the paddock - nearly weaned her udder is very small now. Try and take her for a walk tomorrow - in the gales and rain ! Steve is doing well - in a blue plaster ! Saith colours lol. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 13 Nov 2009
Here is our supa star Saith Magical Ginger. She is growing so fast at the moment. Started weaning off Dream and Jasmine, happy birthday to Jasmine yesterday ! 6 months old. Sadly Dream is not in foal to Tai Forgan Kromwell. I am really gutted about this as with his looks, breeding, movement and fantastic type I was very excited what would come out. Not meant to be, so really sad. So now, what do I do ? Have Saith Johnnie Bach to do, Saith Magical Amber and now unexpectedly, Saith Magical Dream, who hasnt been ridden for years ! I dont know if I have the time to produce all three of them to the standard that I would like. Ummmm Im going to have to try and see what happens. Dream is a very sparky mare - which I love about her - but not brilliant in the show ring if the mood takes her. Amber is less sparky but not as typey, and JB.. bless him ... is just jb ! :) Going to be interesting on what is decided. Have to get dream a bit fit anyway. So next week will start on them. Dream is still being weaned from Jasmine (I take my time over it) and in at night and out in the day with her. Done that for the past week and now today she will stay in, and Jasmine will stay with the others. She is right next to dream but cant suckle from her. Pepper still a bit lame, got better yesterday, but being a "male" decided that its nearly ok and went galloping all over the field - of course came in last night lame again. So Im going to keep everyone in for the weekend in the barn (coriander Ginger Pepper and Amber and Jazz) and hopefully he will improve again. Steve is recovering well. In plaster for 4 weeks now and is already bored. Went to see him yesterday with some photos that I received of Saith Magical Hazelnut Whirl - oh wow she looks amazing !! will download it soon. Steve has kept it for a while to drool over her. Never wanted to sell her. Also had two photos of Toberlone - who looks extremely happy with his new home. Thought he would turn out a bit chunkier as he was a tank as a foal. But only both being 2, they still have alot of growing to do. Not looking forward to the horrible weekend ahead ! Stables ready just in case Hetti and Delight have to come in. The boys (jb and seb) can stay out as they have rugs on, and of course are "men" :) :) H

Welsh Cobs Diary 2 Nov 2009
Poor Saith Magical Angelica is not going to Sweden until end of November. Hope she will settle ok at Nebo stud for that time. Steve's operation went really well. He is now home and has to sit there for weeks without putting any weight on his ankle. So pleased it went well. All of the horses are in tonight, its been raining so hard lately, I thought I would give them a break for the night - all seemed happy with that. Im not, ohhh lots of mucking out tomorrow :( - lol H

Welsh Cobs Diary 25 Oct 2009
Here is Saith Magical Angelica At Nebo stud now ready for her to be exported. Oh that was sad. Long journey down there and leaving her was hard. She hopefully will be on her way to Sweden soon. She looked so lost in the stable. I've put a bit of weight on her for the travelling and she was on probiotics to help with the stress. We then visited Gwrthafarn Stud, Elgin and Bethan and their two lovely girls. I just didnt realise how close everyone was down there. Passed Derwen, then Fronarth and Gwrthafarn and then up to Nebo. Lovely cobs, really chunky at Gwrthafarn. Had a lovely few hours there. Well worth a stud visit if you are in the area. Really lovely people. Then back in the car and home, crying most of the way ! what am I like !! Got home at 9pm. Very strange without her around. Ginger was calling alot. JB still on hols and ripped his expensive rug to pieces. Great !! Steve is off tomorrow for his op - all fingers crossed that it happens this time and is successful. He had a great weekend coming in the top 32 in his darts. Beating two competitors !! yahoo. He's on the way to becoming world champ. :) All horses are ok, foals and mums are in tonight as they say its going to rain, but it hasnt yet ! Hetti came in as well to keep everyone company. So on my own now for a few months, but have a few friends available to me. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 18 Oct 2009
Went to the Welsh Cob sales held at Builth Wells, held by brightwells. Lovely weather and really enjoyed it, met so many friends that we hadnt seen for ages and all asking why we arent out showing like we used to !! Steve showed his poor ankle and then they understood. Hope everything goes well next week. We saw 5 lovely colts, Dy cant remember Shaun - Gwrthafarn had two lovely black colts, one way over our price and the other, we just couldnt decide on. Pony head was amazing, body really good, and I really liked him. One that our friend Geoff was helping to do, really liked him Avonvalley All Black looked stunning, and again out of our price range. So the hunt is still on for a true to type welsh cob, somewhere between Dragon and Kromwell would be perfect. Some lovely colts, and fillies. Prices were better today (sunday) than on friday and sat. Came back home and saw ours. I see them every day all day and you know you kinda get used to seeing them. After seeing such a variety of cobs coming home to ours I was really pleased. Pepper is finally starting to fill out and he just looked amazing today, ready for the next growth spurt. I really like him. Saw Owen from Nebo who is taking our beautiful filly out to Sweden, dropping her off to him on Thursday and today it hit me really hard. She has the most amazing aura about her and although a bit shy when she gives herself to you, its absolute, kind and moving. She will be missed. Very much. She is unusual, marmite as many people say, love her or hate her, but her soul is a good one, and she has a lovely feeling when you are next to her. Been a bit sad tonight thinking about it. She has become part of the stud, and hoping that she gives Camilla the same feeling that she gives us. Its going to be a very very sad day on Thursday, although I know that Camilla, out of all the people who wanted to buy her, is the right person for her. Thats why we chose her. She wants to ride, drive and have fun on her, as well as a brood mare in the future. She is the FIRST Cremello welsh Cob filly exported to Sweden - so a first for Saith and a first for the Welsh cob !! Even if she is a marmite. :) :) I love our cobs, way way way too much, and steve and I both try so hard to breed to the Welsh Cob description not to our own thoughts on what cobs should look like, unlike many who just breed to what they want ! When choosing stallions next year for your mares, read the breed description and think about it, you are producing for the next generation. The welsh cobs are registered for a reason, to keep the breed description - it was laid down over 100 years ago for a reason, because certain people thought the welsh cob was special, special enough to write down what it is supposed to look like and stay like. Dont listen to people that say, ahh head isnt important, shoulder isnt important, bum isnt important, etc., Everyone is obsessed by bone. Bone is relative, the density is that matters, you can have 15 inches as bone, but it can be weak. Yet you can have 6inches and its very strong. Look at Arabs, they dont have alot of bone, but do endurance of upto 50 miles a week and dont break down. Its the density thats important. Im hoping the welsh cob doesnt turn into the welsh cart horse. They are athletic, sprite, not heavy, they should be pony looking, not cleveland bay types. Opps Ive gone off again. Its hard to get what we are trying to achieve because of the cross breeds of the past, but as a breeder we are trying. Just got to find the right colt !!! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 15 Oct 2009
Here is Hetti (Paith True Magical Beauty) and now tested in foal to Janton Pheonix. Angelica's sire. So pleased about this. So she is being pampered this winter :). Wont know about Dream until November. We use a pregnancy test for mares, and it has to be 120 days after serving before you can test, and yahoo, at least one in foal for next year !! Steve is going for his operation (major one) on his ankle on 26th october and Im hoping that it all goes well. He will be off for about 3 months. Lots of hard work for me ! but wont matter as long as he comes right and can do a few shows again. We are off to the sales for the weekend and starts tomorrow. Looking for a young colt that we might use as a stallion for a few years. Got to be right though. Will report back if we get one, otherwise the quest continues... H

Welsh Cobs Diary 23 Sep 2009
Here is Saith Johnnie Bach winning Supreme of Show (SORCY) on Sunday. Wow !! He was such a good boy. I didnt ride him as the ground was a bit slippery and the ring was quite small ! Lucy went with Storm and came 1st in the ridden and 2nd to us in the in hand. We then came reserve champion and he pulled out all the stops in the supreme and got it ! Such a good boy. Nice way to end the showing season for 2009. Had a sash, huge trophy as you can see from the photo. Again a lovely show and still cant believe he did it. Off for a week now as he has had his pre-vac injection, so have to do some painting and fixing of the stables - boring. Box is being serviced and then put away in the barn for the winter. Long winter ahead of us all, and steve will be having his operation in October, so off until February March, if all goes well. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 13 Sep 2009
Fantastic day yesterday. Started badly though, with us getting stuck in traffic and then both the in hand and ridden classes looking like they were going to be on at the same time ! ahhh. Still at grass roots level with Johnnie, and I must say I have enjoyed every small show we have been to. Johnnie has been interesting at most of them ! :) The standard has been high, and the atmosphere one of fun and enjoyment. Its been great. Anyway back to our show at Horseworld (superb charity for rescued horses) and a lovely place. Booked in to the two classes and left a donation - amazing work these people do. The in hand was ahead of timing, so went in that and 2 in our class. Johnnie is just to easy to show in hand and did his beautiful trot and we came 1st. Very pleased. Then rushed down to the box (parked miles away) and change and onto the ridden. The ring was quite buzzy with prams dogs and kid shouting, so good one for jb. We stood and watched the world go by and then did a little trot with him and in the class. He is normally very tense and Im constantly asking him to relax and slow down, yesterday he actually listened for a little while ! We did our individual and when I asked for his canter, he went into it perfectly. Did a great trot across the middle and canter and gallop. I was so chuffed with him. He didnt lose it and was quite calm. There is a tiny spot of light shining away at the end of the tunnel. We came 1st - OMG I just couldnt believe it !! Now, you have to imagine this. The in hand championship was just starting. Box was miles away so mum brought my daps and I just put them on, forgetting that I had cut off the bottom of my jods as they were too long, and also forgetting I had odd socks on. So funny, into the championship with my hat on and was amazed that Johnnie was picked champion ! Whoo hooo!! Then I had to rush off and put his saddle back on, my very tight boots as we were in the ridden championship - I was so so happy at coming champion (beating some very nice horses) that my brain had gone. I was hot and rushing and everyone was waiting for me. I shot into the ring and just couldnt calm down and johnnie felt this ! Everyone else had the perfect slow canter, we were going a bit fast. Steve's face was telling me it all - I nearly ran the judges over ! lol Hopeless, hasten to add didnt come anywhere, but he was still really good. So came out to Steve saying what happened there - Im still buzzing from the earlier championship and just laughed. Then we were just walking away and the in hand judge came over and said are you going into the Supreme - ohhhh didnt know there was one !!! Saddle off, boots off, and took my riding hat off - mistake as the hair stuck to my head ! So had to run around while everyone else just sat on their beautiful horses. Only in hand in there with 4 other ridden. One HOYS qualifier - beautiful horses. We lined up after doing our shows and I was very red by now. Jb was asleep and I thought there is no chance - then Supreme was called - the HOYS qualifier and then US !!! YES we got Reserve Supreme of the Show ! Amazing - JB was such a good boy, I was so happy that he actually did all that was asked without the panic and like I said, there is a light at the end of the tunnel now. Stuck in traffic again on the way home, very long day for us and Johnnie. He had lots of cuddles today (which he put up with) and we chatted about yesterday. Im still buzzing about it. He has so much potential and its starting to come through, another year and Im hoping we will have got it cracked ! Lovely show, and lovely people. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 11 Sep 2009
Our lovely Saith Magical Angelica, who has caused quite a commotion in the cob world, has now been sold. A deposit was received this week from Camilla and her husband in Sweden and will be exported at the end of October. Im so happy about this, as Camilla is very similar to us in the way we treat our horses, and am sure that Angelica will be extremely happy there, doing lots from driving, to showing and ridden then being a mum ! Be strange to say goodbye, as although cremello isnt one of my favourite colours, she has really grown on me with her lovely personality and sweetness. She is one in a million (literally ! lol) and with she will be missed - but not for the washing bit ! :) Beautiful day here and Im just going up to ride. Showing on saturday, but JB has been a bit fresh this week, dont know why ! Had all the foals feet done yesterday - well except my darling Pepper - little so and so decided he was not having it done. In the end we moved on to the others all a little struggle, but fine. I then got my son Rob up to work with him in the evening and ended up picking all the feet up ok. Ummm from being the quietest he was certainly the strongest ! lol But all ended well, just work on him a bit more now. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 30 Aug 2009
Welsh Cobs Diary 30 Aug 2009 Well I just cant believe it, last week it was Johnnie with a little cough so couldnt go to a show, this week, yesterday I was riding him, bent down to do the girth up and spasm ! I couldnt move, my back had locked. So once it eased off, I just walked him and hoping that it was just a one off, but it happened a few times riding. Managed to get everything ready for today's show, determined to go, had a very hot bath and seemed a bit better. Got to the show, and large M&M in hand class and I was really hoping that I could run with him. JB was as good as gold with me, and we were very lucky to come first ! yahooo !! I was booked into the homebred, but just couldnt, so went into the championship with some stunning horses and came reserve Champion !!! Oh I was so pleased, Steve took some lovely photos which I will post up soon. He was such a good boy. He is so push button to show in hand - just wish he was like that in the ridden. !! Saith Black Storm was there and he came 3rd in the M&M in hand, very pleased about that. He looked lovely. We left before Lucy took him in the ridden so not sure what happened. Of course, I couldnt do the ridden and planning on another show tomorrow and cant do that now. Im sitting here waiting my turn to go into the bath. A nice hot bath. Hoping that it may ease off during the week and maybe be ok in a few weeks to show again. Amazing reaction to Angelica's video on You Tube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqXahSVsgcA Im not sure if it will work on here. So another frustrating day, superb day, but Im disappointed we couldnt do the ridden. Never mind, all for a reason, - no idea what reason, but there is always a reason ! lol H

Jb is doing well and off to another show this weekend. Hanging on again ! lol. we're getting there. The girls are all very fat getting ready for winter and the foals are just beautiful. Its been a lovely summer (when we saw sun) the foals have been such a pleasure to cuddle and love. Pepper is just amazing. The perfect foal ! lol Enjoy Angelica on You Tube. ! (under saith stud) Take care H

Another great result from Saith DK and liz and Dot. 6th In hand and 1st Novice Ridden at the North Lancs WP&CS show ! Fantastic. !! Had a lovely stud visit today and the rain stopped just in time ! Lost my necklace somewhere in the fields, so will be searching for that tomorrow. JB did his display and definitely won the - Ill take that one - award. Good news this weekend ! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 15 Aug 2009
woo hooo !!! Saith Magical Hazelnut Whirl has gone to her first show with Neil and Lynda and came 1st against 3yr old Colts !! Apparently she loved it. She has always been a show off :) Really pleased with that, as she is only two. Stud visit tomorrow, so all systems go today, painting the fencing, oh its a long job, really boring and couldnt find my Ipod today to sing along to it. No riding and I think Ive broken the topper as flying around the fields trying to make them look nice and the thing jammed ! opps I wont be popular when steve finds out - gulp. Steve is off to darts tomorrow, he'd better win, as missing so many shows and a stud visit as well. - Only joking, (with tongue in cheek) I hope he enjoys it, he needs a break from my nagging. Tractor needs servicing, gateways digging out and cementing, stables need painting and of course the fencing to continue painting. it just never stops ! :) :) but hey, today, topping the fields, sun just peaking through, foals running around, and then a buzzard flies down and sits in the field - so I stop the tractor and just watch him - absolutely fantastic. It was worth it all. Stunning, just wish I had the camera with me then !! Well done, again, to Neil and Lynda, and of course Hazel - what a clever girl H

Welsh Cobs Diary 9 Aug 2009
We went to Llandeilo Farmers hunt show, and took JB. Laura came with us with her lovely Section B 3 yr old. I was riding JB. Well he was very exciting ! I dont know what set him off, but he was very hard to ride today. He was very tense and kept trying to gallop off with me. I have a "bit" in him that I know I can stop him, but he just wound up worse and worse, to the point where I was going back to the box and forgetting it. Steve talked me round and said, you can come out, but you have to do it as he cant get away with it. He was right. I have to go through this with him, to let him know its ok and there is nothing to worry about. So went in 5 in the class. I decided that I would have to have a loose rein as holding him does not work, so poking nose most of the way around. He lost it a bit on the canter, and broke back to trot, but I kept calm and let him pick it back up. He was on the edge. The slightest thing would have set him off. Obviously came in last. When it was our turn to do our individual, I had a pre- thought of doing a set show, but that went out of the window. I knew I had to do short but safe. So decided to walk, trot and let him go into canter on the corner, then go straight across towards the fence, which would give me a bit of control if he started losing it, then into canter and gallop to finish. We started and he was hyped, so let him go into canter and he was ok, still on a loose-ish rein. We turned and managed to get him to do a couple of strides of trot, and then into canter and gallop. He took off on the gallop, and since we had a lovely big ring, let him go. They after the initial blast he came back okish. Well we were pulled in 2nd and I was over the moon with this. The judge had a chat and was lovely. Said it was very close between 1st and 2nd - ohh that was nice. Im so glad I carried on. Next show will try him loose reined and just see if we can get through it without the panic he had. Its all still learning each other in a stressful situation. How different he is at home ! lol Then into the in hand and came 2nd to a stunning stallion, beating the lady that beat me in the ridden. Jb is push button in the in hand, such a pleasure to run. Laura did really well, 1st , 1st and 3rd. Her lovely pony is available to the right home for loan - photo on gallery. We did joke and say that her rosettes have to say in the box ! lol Saith DK showed yesterday and came 3rd in the M&M in hand. So day off tomorrow, and then hack on tuesday and back to a bit of schooling on wed. We had the only rain shower in Wales ! :) :) H

Welsh Cobs Diary 8 Aug 2009
Great day ! Went to Badgeworth and entered the m&m ridden. Saith Johnnie Bach, as normal was full of himself and he dis-united in his first canter strike off. So brought him back and cantered properly, did the trot and cantered and did a great gallop. Pleased, but he is still so stressy. about 7 in the class and we were pulled in first ! I couldnt believe it !! I just couldnt. I was so pleased for him. No-where in the championship as when we lined up he just shook his head constantly. Then Saith Black Storm was there and did the dressage - came 1st out of 20 !! yahooo, got a bag of feed as well, then did the M&M and Best turned out in hand and came 3rd in both, then did the ridden best turned out and came 1st and did another ridden class and came 2nd. Lucy was over the moon and we watched his dressage. Oh he looked so happy, and so active, again some lovely comments from the judges. Then I come home and get an email from Zara who owns Saith Stefhan to say that he qualified in the evening performance of the junior ridden M&M at the NPS Championship show at Malvern, and came 6th. !! He also qualified for the pairs with a highland for the evening performance, but was scared of the shetlands ! lol Bless him. Good luck to Saith DK tomorrow, he is off to a show, as well as us. Im not sure if JB will just be a tad annoyed about doing two shows one after the other, but we will find out. Huge smile on my face tonight. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 5 Aug 2009
Saith Black Storm and Saith DK both showed on the weekend and did really well. Lucy and Storm came 3rd out of 30 in a dressage test and was really pleased. Lovely comments from the judge. Saith DK with dot and liz came 1st in hand, 2nd novice ridden and 1st open ridden. Again both very pleased. So was I ! Havent ridden much, hopefully today - the weather has been terrible. Wormed everyone yesterday and the foals were good. Had a day in from the rain. The mares look wonderful, they have really blossomed this year. Two shows this weekend, should be fun, but one early one on Sat - ugg - hate getting up early. ! lol H

Welsh Cobs Diary 31 Jul 2009
Terrible weather this week, Im actually going riding today for the first time. Poor JB, will be in shock ! Small video of the foals on You Tube under saithstud. Not a brilliant one as on my own and its hard to get them going really. Although jasmine didnt need any encouragement. She is so lovely. They all are. :) Get a better video when the rain stops and the ground dries up a bit. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 29 Jul 2009
Both Storm and JB went to shows this weekend. Luckily we chose one a bit further away and missed the rain, whereas poor Lucy and Storm got soaked. They came 3rd in the best gelding out of 12 and 4th in M&M out of 14. Well done Lucy and Storm ! Jb went really well at his show and came 1st out of 8 in the in hand M&M and 2nd out of 4 in the ridden. No championship unfortunately. The ridden was fun - as usual. We did the go around and was pulled in 2nd, which I was really pleased with. Then asked to do our show and he was wound up again, and trying to do it himself. So ended up on the wrong leg and then changed to the right one and then wouldnt stop to trot going across the centre !! lol Its taken me 2 years to get him to canter correctly, and now he doesnt want to stop. Eventually got about 4 strides out of him and then on the other rein. His gallop was good, but again didnt want to stop. The adrenaline just goes over the top when he is doing his show. He should start to calm down as he is so good schooling at home, its only a matter of showing and showing and going to all the small shows to start with and once he realises that its boring, he will start to calm down a bit (hopefully ! lol). He walked out of the ring this time, so no bronks as in St. Fagans show. The only reason we kept 2nd place, was the poor lady next to me, her horse fell over and she fell off, and the one in 4th place just kept going. Its a placing, even though by default !! :) Wont be showing this weekend - steve's off to darts on Sunday and most of the shows Ive found are on sunday, but the weather looks terrible anyway, so might give it a miss. Everyone is fine, except poor Coriander, who has a swollen face today, like she has been kicked in the side of her face. She is eating and drinking, but probably get the vet out tomorrow if its not starting to go down. Brought them all in today, as its pouring here, and everyone will be getting rain scald soon ! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 24 Jul 2009
Saith Black Storm has now been sold. Its a fantastic home, with Lucy Powell from a village near Western Super Mare. He has been on a two week trial, passed his 5 star vetting and has settled down and working well, going on hacks with kids jumping on trampolines, waving to him. He just took it in his stride. Lucy wants to do everything with him, jumping, fun rides, showing and hacking. Im really happy as he has a wonderful home, but sad at the same time, as he is a real character, and Ill miss him, but think we will be bumping into each other at shows. Steve and I and all at Saith, wish Lucy and Storm the very best of luck. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 19 Jul 2009
Busy weekend. Took Johnnie Bach to a local show on Saturday. Ohh he was fun. Very excited and stressed. We managed to get around, but had a few moments ! We then did the individual and he was wound up. We managed to do it and he didnt want to stop again. So a few circles later we got there. Then on the way out, he decided to have a little bronk for some reason ! and then settled and did a lovely trot. I didnt let him go out immediately and made him walk. Today, we did the in hand at Lympsham and he won the in hand and owner bred. Nothing in the championship and we both got absolutely soaked - he saw Storm (who also won a class) and went a bit potty - with the rain and the ground was very slippy, I decided it wasnt worth it. Got soaked once, didnt want to again and if he messed about I could see us going flying. Tired now and ready for my bath. Housework tomorrow and off to the races on Tuesday in the new Welsh racecourse, then back to normal on Wednesday and I think we have found a show on Sunday and try again with the ridden. Couple of photos of us on his page. H

Lovely weather ~! not !! Only lunged JB yesterday as it was pouring, so hopefully get a ride today. Got the showing all wrong again, its Stocklands tomorrow and now we are going to Lympsham on Sunday, weather permitting of course. Coriander has come into season and Tai will be serving her this week. Late foals again, but cant be helped. They all look the same when they get to 4 ! lol God some Fantastic photos done with Pegasus Photography the other day - lovely people and will be putting them up soon. The one above is of Johnnie. Will be getting Jenna and Rhys to come out and take some of JB working, which will be lovely. Bringing everyone in today to have a rest from the rain. Its been so bad with us we are back to mud. :( H

Welsh Cobs Diary 15 Jul 2009
This is Steve's good photo !! lol What a brilliant day. JB still a bit light because of the lammi, but ok. VERY nervous - driving down M5 to Lympsham, and saw our friend Judy driving the other way, thinking ummm whats that about, trying to think if she was picking up another horse or something. Then looked at the schedule and the venue has changed to Bristol !! OMG OMG, quick turn around and in hot pursuit of Judy ! couldnt believe it. Im laughing my head off as we would have turned up at an empty field and thought it had been cancelled. So get there, in hand is pretty close, do a quick dash and off we go - Now normally Im focused, but just could not because Judy (in the same ridden class) was tacked up and ready and looking at us as if to say Uh what are you doing. Steve ran over to her (well shuffled) and said why are you dressed. They are on the 4th class and we were class 6. OMG OMG. I thought, steve said, just do the in hand and bring him back and dont worry about riding in as he is so unfit, do that in the ring, ok good sense. Of course in the IN hand, I was not focused, just thinking tack him up first, get myself ready etc etc., So came 3rd and was pleased with that. Rushed out and ran to the lorry, put him on and tacked up and tried to keep calm, steve went to see what was going on. They still hadnt finished class 4 and then class 5 went in (bob templeton open) with loads in there, obviously giving a run out before the Olympia qualifier in the afternoon. They went on for ages, and then a championship then us. I was extremely nervous. I couldnt swallow, talk and the legs were totally gone. Went in and 7 in the class. He was fine walking, went into trot and started tanking. Now I had the "bit" on him which doesnt come into play until they start tanking, so told him no, and he really didnt like that. Kept the trot up and into canter, perfect, then hung on for ages as he would not come back and I was hauling. Changed rein and he did a reasonable extended trot and straight into canter on the other rein, again hanging on, the judge just kept us going for 4 circuits of a very large ring, JB was so tired. Brought in last (understandably) and pressure off. In the individual and he stood nice, walked away, thought Id do his bad rein first, the short canter, went straight into it, wouldnt stop, so had to really pull and then got back to trot. Extended trot was totally unbalanced and he was fighting and then he decided to go into canter on the straight across and with his head to the right and of course struck off on the wrong canter lead. Pulled him up and changed canter leads, too strongly, in which case he did a small buck (tiny one, but enough to tell me to lighten up !) and then the gallop which was good. Phew. Judge came down and said, I would have put you up if it hadnt been for his wrong leg. I was really pleased with that, as he is not in show condition, not light in his way of going and not balanced. We have a way to go, but I did it. Im proud of myself for that. Jb just switches when he gets nervous or excited, just doesnt listen, and yet at home he is really good. Frustrating but when I was talking to Judy - her horse was the same and now into his 3rd season and is much calmer and went really well. Cheltenham on Sat and Stocklands on Sunday. Hopefully my arms will be still attached. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 11 Jul 2009
Saturday, steve was supposed to go to darts, but it all fell though at the last minute and loads of shows on today !! ahhhhh Never mind, off to NPS on Tuesday, actually riding JB !! He is no way ready, but I just have to get out into the ridden classes again, or I just will not do it. I have never had huge confidence in the ridden, but the buzz afterwards is amazing. Im just missing it so much, so even though he is not fit, can only do half a field, Im hoping his adrenaline will take us around. Im not expecting anything on the day as he is very light still after his small bout of laminitus. Healthy I would like to add - not fat, but unfortunately they have to be so fat to be even looked at today. Its going to be very exciting as he took off with me yesterday ! lol It was great fun and I couldnt stop laughing at him. Just love him so much. Couldnt stop laughing and couldnt stop him !! great combination. Hopefully the weather will be ok. Then we will be off to Cheltenham on Saturday and our local show Stocklands on Sunday. We shall see how he goes in those and see if he can cope and not get too stressed with it all. Meaning, if we stay in the ring and not gallop off - never to be seen again. :) :) Whatever, it will be great fun and full report when I get back, hopefully both of us in one piece. All the welsh cobs are fine and the foals are looking lovely, will be doing some new photos soon, just too many horseflies still around !! Dot and Liz who own Saith DK, have now finished their box. Yahooo !! So dk is going on a few fun rides. Zara has been doing great with Saith Stefhan, qualifying for Ponies UK in the jumping and trying some NPS classes coming 3rd and 2nd and best junior rider. I must get updates from everyone. Good news that Saith Magical Sapphire is in foal. Mark and Pat are delighted and are very excited about it. It should be a stunning foal. So fingers crossed that we actually compete a ridden class on Tuesday !! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 4 Jul 2009
Went to another show today !! yahooo... Just found it last night on the internet. Took my fella, Johnnie Bach, and came 1st in hand. Large class too. No-where in the championship, but he tried his heart out for me. Thats two shows he's done and 2 firsts. What a clever boy ! So wanted to take him in the ridden, but he is not fit enough yet, only back in work a few days really. Im going to try and work him quite hard this week and hopefully might get to a show on sunday if I can find one. Northleach was on today, and boy I was thinking about that alot. Maybe next year. Fingers crossed. Lots of work this week on him and Im determined just to a ridden with him. Even if we are flying around - lol. In hand is fun, but it doesnt give that buzz of a ridden class. :) H

Welsh Cobs Diary 29 Jun 2009
Took our welsh cob Saith Black Storm (who is really brown ! ) to the Congresbury Show on Sunday. Lucy took him in the in hand M&M 4 yrs and over and came 3rd, in a large class. Very pleased with him as we were hanging around for ages as they split the classes, and he was getting bored. Lovely to be going to a show and really enjoyed it. Here is a piccie of Lucy and Storm. All the foals are looking superb and we are still inundated with horseflies. I had to drag Coriander out of the barn tonight as she just didnt want to go out into them, even though they are fly sprayed to the hilt. JB is now being ridden and very fresh at the moment, which is great fun ! lol I couldnt ride him today as we would have both been eaten alive, so try and get up a bit earlier tomorrow and get up there before the Ninja flies become too active. Welsh Cobs Diary 23 Jun 2009
Whoo what a week. Went to Royal Ascot on Saturday, wow what an amazing day. I cant tick this off my "to do " box now. We were in the Royal Enclosure and it was incredible. Just ate and drank champagne (£10.50 per glass !!) and had a wonderful wonderful day. Won the second race so didnt have to beg Peter to give me any more money ! lol Well because JB was on rest after his dust allergy, he then got laminitis as being rested. I couldnt believe it, it was only mild and within a day or so in the barn (that I had to then rush to get the cheap sawdust out - took from 9am to 8pm to do it) he seems alot better. The "ninja" horseflies have been really bad, all the mares and everyone in fact in the barn and stables in the day and then out at night. I have to force them out in the evening and tonight they went in the field and ran back into the barn !! Great... make me feel even more guilty. Storm has had his wolf teeth out and relaxing before i start working him again, he is now walking in and out of the trailer like a pro and travelling well. Very pleased with that. He's back to my lovely Storm again ! lol and not the Git ! The days are flying by and I just dont seem to have enough time to think these days. with all the extra mucking out and feeding and getting the hay soaked for jb and playing with the foals (ahh beautiful !) my day has gone. Peter and I are also up-dating our house a bit and need the time to spend at home, but the weather has been amazing. More work for me, but I dont care, just to walk out and its warm is lovely. Steve still not good, this weather does not help him, and he decided to do some hay this year. Ouch !! But we spent over £1,500 on hay last year, and trying to save some pennies, like everyone else out there. Vet was happy with JB and his breathing, and lammi, also said sell all the foals except Ginger !! I asked how much Steve paid him as he loves her. She is special. She has that something about her. Jasmine now loves the scratching and wont leave me alone, Pepper, well he's just pepper and so loving and cute, Ginger is very very sweet, and Angelica - ohh worming next week and I dont think she is going to enjoy that - she is HUGE, almost like double muscled. She makes the others look small ! And she isnt even two months old yet ! Great week ahead, off to War of the Worlds with friends and Peter and then bbq on Saturday and James Taylor on Sunday - wonderful Tai Forgan Kromwell, is still waiting for anyone to come into season !! I tried him again tonight and the girls just shot up the top of the barn and said no. He was so upset bless him. !! lol H

Welsh Cobs Diary 10 Jun 2009
Bum photo ! lol Saith Black Storm, aka - the git, loaded on and off the trailer yesterday. Fed in there, and today he goes for a little drive to see what the problem was. So hopefully will be back on trial and start over again ! lol Foals are all looking well and have put some NEW videos up on You Tube,(saithstud) will try and load them on the web page too, but dont hold your breath ! :) Steve's not been well and off for more tests on Thursday. JB has a dust allergy and so the whole barn and stables have to be cleared out of normal sawdust and replaced with dust extracted stuff. Great. A huge job, which is going to take me some time. So obviously no riding while we get him under control and hopefully on the right road. Just so upsetting - actually getting somewhere with him and back to square one. Ginger already wants to be groomed and played with. New pictures up on their pages. Pepper has had alot of interest in him, as has Jasmine and Angelica, but poor Ginger - dont think anyone is interested in chestnuts ! lol Although after seeing her move on the video, steve doesnt want to sell her. Ummm you all know me and chestnuts ! lol Anyway, pop onto you tube and tell me what you think ??? H

Welsh Cobs Diary 5 Jun 2009
Here is steve with Janton Pheonix (trigger) driving - first time !! He loved it. Poor Pheonix trying to pull him around - more photos on the stallion page under Pheonix. He drove down, served Hetti (Paith True Magical Beauty) and then drove off ! lol Superb animal. What a busy day yesterday. Had a phone call from Lucy who has Storm on loan - saying that she had taken him to a local showjumping event to try him out in that atmosphere, went into the trailer fine at home and then was in a pool of sweat when he got there. He then would not load to come home. We had to go and get him in the morning from Badgeworth and it was all a bit sad as he virtually walked straight onto our box. I walked him on and off for 20 mins with Lucy there and we decided that since we have a trailer - he will have to be re-educated in that. Apart from that, he was perfect for her good in the traffic, easy to do etc., He's such a git on times ! So after trailer training - not sure why he was so bad as he has been brought up in a cattle trailer, Lucy will come down and we shall do a session together and hopefully things will be ok Just never stops - lol. Gave Storm a good talking too on the way home. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 3 Jun 2009
At last, all the foals have been born and I can relax. Welsh cob Saith Magical Amber had a beautiful colt foal, dark bay 4 whites and a very unusual blaze. He is lovely, although I didnt think that a 4am this morning when he wouldnt suckle. In the end Amber laid down flat out and he somehow found her teats and suckled her ! It was so funny to watch, like a puppy. Anyway, by 6am he had done the job properly and I could go home. Steve left about 5am and came back at 9am to make sure he was ok. Now, he isnt leaving Amber alone - lots of photos on foals page when simon gets them up. Not sure about the name, but bearing the theme this year, Pepper is hot favourite (excuse the pun!) I can get back to normal now. Storm is doing very well with his trial, and so fingers crossed that he behaves. 3 fillies and 1 colt, excellent - I can see the girls will be all over him. ! lol. He is very good. Wishaw Revelation has done us proud. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 31 May 2009
Paith Magical Coriander came first in the race to have the next foal. Although Saith Magical Amber, her daughter was due before her, Coriander thought the weather was just too good to miss, and produced a beautiful chestnut (!!) filly early this morning. Four white stockings and a blaze, but very very pretty. She has had a cuddle and comes over and says hello already. I think she will be a dark chestnut as she isnt the bright orange of our other chestnuts. Very pleased that both mum and baby are ok. The name...... Saith Magical Ginger (spices and herbs theme) We are so lucky to have 3 fillies out of 4. Will sleep tonight ! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 29 May 2009
Here is Saith Black Storm - not so black at the moment, still in half winter coat and was losing it really nicely, until we had that day of rain and wind and cold, he stopped ! He is off on a two week trial to his new home. Storm is being vetted on Monday and we hope all goes well, otherwise back down and picking him up ! lol. I shouldnt joke about it really. If all goes well on the trial and vetting, he has landed in heaven. Lucy has her own place with Andy and 4 acres and lots of hacking. She rode him out the other day and they got on so well, even to the point of Storm putting his ears back to Johnnie, who only came over to see the who the new person was - lucy. He just attached himself to her instantly. Always like to see that !! So fingers crossed it all works out, not a problem if it doesnt, just not meant to be, and he will be back home. Nat - rob's long time friend, is also in love with him and we have been riding out. So she will be happy if it doesnt work out !! :) Saith Johnnie bach has a cough at the moment. So vet out next week to see what its all about. I was actually going to take him in a ridden class this weekend as his canter is really good on the one rein, not so good on the other. But the cough started and thats out the window now. He seemed quite happy not to do anything today and of course it was beautiful weather ! The two mares, Saith Magical Amber and Paith Magical Coriander are very uncomfortable - I keep saying push to them, but to no avail. Definitely within the next month ! lol No I think this weekend, maybe, maybe. I will be so pleased if it is. Saith Magical Angelica and Jasmine both had their headcollars on today. Both were very good, although Angelica stood on my son's Robbie's toes quite alot. She is so strong now, that I thought it would be a good idea to start early with her. She will be wormed next week. The month has gone so fast since she was born. Such a lovely filly. Jasmine is still into everything. She had the hosepipe in her mouth and was walking around the stable with it ! (they were in with the really bad weather for a day). I couldnt stop laughing as she thought this was just the bees knees. She is so sweet, very intelligent. Steve now has arthritis in his knee, as well as his ankle. Still no news when the operation is going to be, but soon I hope as it is very painful for him. Obviously he is meant to see all the foals being born before he has 3 months off. Stunning weather today. I sat in the field watching the foals for ages. Enjoying the sun on my back. Its those moments that make all the horrible winter cold days disappear and I wonder why I was moaning ! :) :) H

Here's our baby, now over a week old, time flies ! Coriander and Amber are due next week and are huge. Simon, will be putting her up on our web soon, with more pictures. Had a lovely stud visit from Shelley on Monday and we nattered cobs for 6 hours ! OMG !! I was in my element - had a wonderful day, and hope everything goes well with her new cob. Actually managed to go out for a hack yesterday with JB and Storm, lovely. It was sunny a bit, which was really nice and took some photos of Seb and Delight, now in the field with some grass. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 15 May 2009
Here is welsh cob Saith Magical Angelica doing "airs above the ground " lol Both Angelica and the "newbie" are doing well. Especially in the lovely weather we are having. I wish!! Still waiting on Coriander and Amber, both due last week of May and by the same sire - Wishaw Revelation. Lovely stallion and saw a black 4 white socks, gelding by him on the weekend and he was really lovely. In all the excitment of Dream's foal, I forgot to say that Saith Johnnie Bach, came 1st in the M&M class and 2nd in the Homebred class - both strong classes and I was very pleased with him. This is in hand, but we are slowly making progress towards ridden ! Trouble is that I havent been able to ride for a week now. Been too busy, and going away for the weekend, looks like Ill have to start again next week. At this rate - never get to a show ! lol But once Coriander's and Amber's foals are born - hopefully healthy and safe (and black with 4 whites !) then I can get back on track. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 13 May 2009
Dream has foaled !! Yesterday but so busy with rob that havent managed to tell the world yet. She had a beautiful bay filly which is by Monumental Sir Lancelot, who is now in Belgium. She had the filly in with delight and amber and by herself !! Not impressed with that, and Delight was very very interested, so the poor thing didnt have time to relax as Dream was on the move. Anyway, separated them and she is out with hetti and Angelica and Coriander (who is bursting !) and everyone was happy and relaxed. Very very pleased with her, and photos to come as forgot the camera yesterday. Havent had a cuddle either yet. !! So now we have to think of a name for her. At least she foaled before I went away on Saturday night. I was convinced she would then. lol Great news ! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 6 May 2009
LOL !! look at Saith Magical Delight (2 yr old) fly !! lol Saith Magical Angelica is doing well and now out at night. She is still coming over to me and enjoying her scratching, Hetti (her mum) has come into her foaling heat and Im sure Tai can smell it as he's been going up and down his field like mad. We dont serve on foaling heat, so the next one he will have his chance. Though Steve is thinking of using Janton Pheonix again. Im not sure, as he is alot of money that we dont have at the moment. Will think about it, have 16 days to decide anyway. JB needs his new saddle to be reflocked now, and great news he is cantering in the field without bombing off and although not very well balanced, he is cantering. So pleased with this, its taken years to get him to canter without going into four beat, leaning on me, or galloping off. He's such a good boy and now I have to get the saddle sorted again !! but we are on the right road at long last. Feels like how it was when Dream came back to us, she took a year and a half to get right, so thinking another year and we will be out showing big time - well I can dream cant I ! lol Saith Sebastian has finally got over his bits coming off, although he did lose a bit of weight, but hopefully, now can get that back on him over the next couple of weeks. He is happy in himself though, which is the main thing. In fact he is playing with Jb and Storm all the time. Dream is starting to get restless and Im hoping she will pop soon, another baby to play with ! yahoo. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 3 May 2009
Finally we agreed a name and its Saith Magical Angelica. This suits her so much as she does have an aura about her. Very friendly and loves her scratches already. We have a small You Tube video of her up when she was 10 hours old. So strange to see a white dot in the field, as a friend said, if we have all black foals then we have had the black and white mistral show ! lol (maybe a bit old for some of you!) She is such a cutie and lots of photos will be up as soon as webmaster Simon can do it. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 1 May 2009
At 2am Paith Magical True Beauty and Janton Phoenix produced a Cremello filly. !! No name as yet, but working on it. She is very sweet and very friendly. So our first one of four is out and healthy and happy - go to bed tonight happy and have a good sleep ! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 21 Apr 2009
Back from holidays and lots have happened. Firstly great news about Saith Revels Mojoe - who now lives in Scotland with Maureen. He came 3rd in his first show at the All welsh scottish show, hope Ive got that right. Superb news. Secondly, Saith sebastian is now a gelding !! ah bless he got cut last week and is doing really well. thirdy, I took Saith black storm on his first fun ride - oh it was brilliant and he loved it. Actually started doing extended trot on his own. Lovely. Very pleased with him. He got a bit frightened by two idiots that decided 10 miles worth of galloping was not enough, and during on a small part of a wood on a single track decided to gallop up the backside of Storm. He didnt like that, and I dont blame him. Also a small dog decided to say hi, he just caught him in the corner of his eye and leaped up and caused mayhem in the collecting area. So funny ! Fantastic fun ride though. Steve was booked in to have his ankle done, but unfortunately had a blood clot and they couldnt carry on. So sad for him, as he was ready for it. Trying to get out of the foaling ! lol. All the mares are looking great, and since back from hols been galloping JB around the fields and loving it. Easy way to get him fit ! lol. Only 3 weeks now and the late nights start. Got to get everything ready soon. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 3 Apr 2009
This is Saith Magical Ffion in America, on her first hunt (some more pictures on her page). She is being a star, as Wendy emailed me and told me she had over 100 children fussing her at an event for reading its the Black Stallion Literacy programme and the kids get to see a horse and stroke it. Ffion loved every minute and then in the end, Wendy walked her up some steps across a platform and down - she was a star. Im so proud of her and wendy. They definitely clicked from the moment Wendy saw Ffion in a video I sent to her as a foal. Proud mum too !!! :) Been busy, as my poor mother has shingles, also Steve's back has been bad and Rob (my son) seems to be doing 100 things this week. Cant wait until he can drive, but being a mum, will be worrying at the same time. Rode Storm out with Laura and GK, ah he was a star and had some pretty scary things happen, he just took it in his stride and was bouncing which was lovely, very forward and did some good hill work. BUT now Im on hols for a week skiing (bit of a shock as it will be minus one !) so everything on hold again, until I get back. Had to jump on JB today though, just walking, but it was wonderful, he inspires me to ride better. Had my birthday present through yesterday, classical dressage book and a dvd by phillippe karl. Amazing rider. Both coming on hols with me. ! plus an exercise dvd - as I dont ski, I need to keep up the exercises and at least pretend that Ive done something ! :) Steve will be looking after everything while Im away and has done a brill job this week rolling and chain harrowing the fields. Saith Magical Sapphire has gone to her "boyfriend" and hopefully a superb foal to come out of that for her owners Pat and Mark. She has gone to the Royal Welsh champion, Gwynfaes Culhwch. Still waiting on ours, May and June, and they are looking big at the moment. ! When I get back hopefully be able to put them out on the grass, ah bliss !! no more mucking out the barn - they have access to the barn 24/7 with hay and water, with a field attached, but a bit rough in the winter though, and of course they come into the barn to pooh !! A week of fun !! yahooo and then back to the serious job of galloping around the fields, oh its a hard life :) H

Welsh Cobs Diary 24 Mar 2009
Just to say thank you again to everyone that has been concerned about my dickie heart. Good news is that I have an extra heart beat now and again and an extra electric shock now and again, nothing to worry about and I have a healthy heart. All the tests came back clear - apart from my extras ! - and so its all go again. Had a busy weekend. We had 3 stud visits. So the farm had a quick tidy up, which it needed after winter. The first on Sunday morning with Adrian and Juliet from Juliad stud who bought Saith Magical Tiffany and Saith Magical Charm a few years ago. Charm produced a beautiful black colt foal by Monumental Mason (northwick stud) and I was a bit envious of that, as we had the chestnut ! lol That was so great seeing them again and had a lovely plod around our muddy farm, and the horses. Although we couldnt get Tai to do anything, - so laid back is he ! lol. Then being mother's day I had to rush off and have lunch with mother and mother in law, and back up in the afternoon to see Katie, who bought Saith Morgan off us, and have a mosey around with her. Great to catch up with all the news on the cobs we've sold. Then on Monday morning Keith and Chris came up to look at Tai Forgan Kromwell, our new stallion. They had a stud visit and some lunch, but the weather had changed and it was freezing. Kromwell actually managed a good trot on Monday, maybe the weather got him going, I dont know, but I was pleased as he has such fantastic action. All the cobs did us proud, and Keith decided on taking Dream and Chris Amber ! lol I always wonder which welsh cob people will like when they come to us. So happy that all is ok, just start getting storm fit again - its definitely been stop start with him, and in two weeks Im off on holiday for a week - so stop again. Hopefully get out to a few shows in May with him ridden. Just like to thank everyone that came up this weekend, made us clean up the place a bit after winter, trouble is (like at home) everything was shoved into the shed - cant get in there now ! lol H

Welsh Cobs Diary 14 Mar 2009
Been a quiet week, well nearly !! Somehow the gates came off their hinges allowing the herd to get out into the drive and onto the flower bed (tut) and next to the stallion, who couldnt stand that and got out with them. So when I got there the drive was a mess, no sign of Tai in the field and a big gulp. Flew into the barn and all of them ok (thank goodness) and Tai protecting to entrance so no-one got out. Its like he wants them in one corner and no-where else. Caught him and took him back to his field which he wasnt particularly happy with, checked everyone and the herd then shot out the barn into the field and I didnt see them for the rest of the day. Huw has been up and the saddle is here and beautiful. Took Storm out for a quick ride up the lane and back, and bless him he didnt want to come home. So we can go out for a ride tomorrow and enjoy this nice weather. Our tadpoles have hatched and Im hoping for lots of frogs ! :) Im hankering for a show, but obviously not until everything is ok and I have to say thanks to everyone that have emailed and rung me to make sure Im still alive ! I never knew so many read the diary ! Thought it was only me - lol H

Welsh Cobs Diary 8 Mar 2009
Here is welsh cob Saith Black Storm looking like a dragon ! :) :) Well our back lady was cancelled on Monday as I was having major heart palpitations. Steve took me up to our local hospital and all was fine, so carried on, but the pain wasnt going away, got into a specialist on Thursday and he said I have an extra heart beat and an extra shock action in my heart. I was so relieved as I thought it may have been serious. Still more tests to come, and hoping they come out ok. Which of course puts the shows at a standstill for a little while until I get the right medication. All the horses are fine and hopefully back to normal with back lady coming out tomorrow, (again) and I can start again in a couple of days time once they are over the massage/ treatment. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 24 Feb 2009
Here's our welsh cob stallion Tai Forgan Kromwell, (Tai for short). He is now out (luxury for me) until the rains start again. Been such a good boy. Got JB's boots and back ones too big, so sending them back and front ones are just fine. Rode him today and he was such a great ride. Actually cantering every chance he had. Im so happy about this as he just couldnt canter for ages, but now is light and balanced, even if it is for only one or two circles. Thats a whole lot better than nothing ! Long way to go yet, and Im desperate for a gallop ! Might sneek off next week and find a place. Storm and JB are having their backs done on Monday, so will have to leave him a couple of days after that. The weather has been so fantastic, all of them except Coriander (stood watching over them) were flat out in the field - it was a lovely sight. They are all so good together. Amber Dream Coriander all look huge with their babies. Hetti not so big, but Im sure she is pregnant - oh I hope so. Hoping for a cremello colt from her ! Steve and I are hedging bets as to what is coming out. I think a colt out of Coriander, Filly out of Dream, filly out of Amber and colt out of hetti. I cant remember what steve said. He is not well at the moment, has done something to his knee. Going to Germany on the weekend for Darts so hoping he does well. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 21 Feb 2009
Fantastic day !! Went to NPS show at Badgeworth - up at 6am and we were gone from the farm at 6.45am - just not used to getting up that early anymore ! :) Welsh cob Saith Black Storm was bathed yesterday (should have been Thursday) and wasnt really happy about a cold bath. I told him its the new therapy. So on our way and being so hairy he is sweating all over - great. Got to the show and tried really hard to dry him off, managed most of him but his belly was still a bit damp. Welsh cob Saith Magical Sapphire, now owned by Mark, came out of the box, cool calm and collected, shining and looking amazing. OK I thought, I think I know where Storm and I will be - at the end !! We got to the class and about 13 were in there, all looking superb and had feathers ! OK I thought again, Im just going to really enjoy this as I know where I am going to be ! at the end. We had the whole arena, which was just fantastic, and I was a bit worried about the running, me being out of breath (first show of the season) and Storm not wanting to run with me, as happened the last show I took him in, after coming home from being on loan. BUT..... he was brilliant. He trotted with me all the way, although not fantastic, kept up and enjoyed it as much as I did. Got pulled in 6th place !!!! So in the middle and I was beaming and bouncing around, as I was buzzing. Then for our individual show. He went again, really well more than I expected of him, and again I was so pleased. Not where I want him to be yet, but that will come. Placed 7th in the end, but over the moon with that. The judge had a little chat to me, and said that he just needed a bit extra. Totally agreed with her and said he'll get it soon and we will be back to him bouncing in the ring, and she said "oh he will get there". Now this sent a chill down my spine, as these were the words used by Mrs. Bown when I first took dream out and she was not going forward, and look what happen with her !!! Sapphire did brilliantly and came 4th - I have to say this was an extremely strong class and she moved beautifully. (beat us again !! tut) Really enjoyed seeing everyone again and loved the buzz there, and such a well run show, just wish I could have been riding. His new saddle has arrived, although we have one, Huw was not pleased with the shape on him and ordered another one. So that will be here sometime this week. So brilliant day. Just so happy as the judge's comments made me realise what a special boy he is. H

Welsh Cobs Diary 12 Feb 2009
Oh lots has happened since my last diary entry. Looking forward to the shows starting (21st Feb NPS at badgeworth). Oh how I need a show !! So Tai (kromwell) got out of the field and in with the herd - everyone was fine and Tai wandered over to me as if nothing had happened. Im looking for blood, but everyone thankfully, in one piece. So that was an exciting 5 mins ! Everyone is back up at the farm as the bottom field now resembles a bog. Saith Magical Dream is being exercised every day and in at night to hopefully lose some weight, she is still huge. But wow, watching her move in the arena is awe inspiring - she still can move superbly. JB, well Ive hopefully found a major problem. His feet ! My good friend lent me a dvd on hooves - 16 hours of it, and I never realised so much. Had a good look at them and they are not right, got some boots coming for him as his sole is very thin. He is starting to move really well again. Which Im so pleased about. Storm has lost a shoe and Farrier coming on Monday . So all stop with him riding wise, but playing on the ground and we have such good fun ! He is a sweetie. He will have boots as well now, no more shoes for us ! Everyone is looking fine although very muddy. Seb is growing well and Delight and seb play for ages in the arena, very annoying when Im trying to lunge or do trotting poles ! They are fun though and seem so happy. Poor Seb, will be goolie free in a few months time. (ouch ) Having my tow bar fitted on the car on Tuesday - will be practicing driving up and down the lane until I can do it blindfold. Then Im off !! Looking for lovely rides where my car will be safe and so will jb/storm and me ! Im excited about that as the riding around us is pretty bad. Just looking forward to a few hours of lovely riding without worrying about fast cars ! H

Welsh Cobs Diary 20 Jan 2009
Here is the trophy that Im so proud to be apart of. A good friend of mine Catrin thought it would be a nice idea to remember a friend of ours that unfortunately took her life, about 6 years ago. Rachel of the Lon Las Stud. She was a very special person. Wendy from America has also contributed to it as she knew Rachel well, buying one of her mares for her stud, and a few other friends that were close to Rachel. I hope everyone had a great new year ! Ohh we did at the party, my husband Peter came home with £24,000 in winnings. Pity it was only play money ! lol Steve went to Gibraltar this weekend and had a great time playing darts. Everyone knows him through his "welsh" shirt. Had autograph hunters !! lol Everyone up the farm is fine and the saddle came, but Huw was not happy with it and has ordered another one !! In the meantime has lent me the original saddle to start on Storm. Ahhhh took him out for two hacks already and he was such a good boy. So the long haul of getting him fit starts and hopefully might get to a show in Feb. Not sure, just see how he is going. He is pretty laid back and such a change from JB ! So have to teach him to go more forward and lengthen his stride, but Im happy that at last I have a cob that I can ride and show ! Even if we dont manage a canter in the ring - :) :) He is a bit porky and hairy though. Kromwell (our stallion) has been very entertaining lately and such a lovely boy. He just does the most amazing show off trot ! He has natural head carriage so looks like he is on the bit and working superbly. Bless him. Had someone interested in using him already ! Havent advertised him, but I was pleased with that. Sebastian has now been weaned and is very happy with the herd. It wasnt alot of difference for him and we always do weaning very slowly. He just goes with the herd, and isnt looking for mum. He's such an easy lad. Dont know what he will think of me once he is cut though ! lol Hate this rain - would love a sunny holiday now :) Take care H
